This test step indicates only whether the control unit has recognized the conditions for O2 SENSOR LOOP CLOSED or not.
The conditions for recognizing the closed loop are:
1: The oxygen sensor must have exceeded a voltage of 600 mV or fallen below 300 mV once and
2: The engine operating temperature must lie above 20° C / 68° F
3: The engine operating temperature must lie above 68 °C / l55° F if the engine was started below 18 °C / 65 °F and
4: Trouble code 44 or 45 must not be present.
If the full load enrichment displays ACTIVE the TECH 1 display remains at OPEN in test step 10.
If the above - mentioned condition is attained, the regulating function of the control unit is switched off and the oxygen sensor voltage is not used to correct the air / fuel mixture.
That is, test step 09 does not indicate whether the control unit is actually regulating, but only whether the readiness for regulation exists: (regulation conditions are satisfied or not satisfied)
