Multec-M C 14 SE
Introductory Summary
The new engine management system MULTEC-M (multiple fuel injection system) in the C 14 SE engine is a further development of the MULTEC engine management system in the C 18 NZ engine.
- The C 14 SE engine is based on the tried and tested 1.4 ltr. OHC engines. Use of four injection nozzles, i.e. simultaneous multi point injection, and an increase of the compression ratio to 9.8:1 have increased the output to 60 kW.
- The engine is also designed to conform to the 91/441/EEC, US '83 exhaust emissions legislation (closed loop 3-way catalytic converter). Either premium unleaded (95 RON) or Super Plus (98 RON) must be used. These fuels can be set on the octane number plug, which should be adjusted before filling.
- In contrast to the C 18 NZ engine with a conventional high voltage distributor, the C 14 SE engines use DIS (Direct Ignition System). In this new, distributorless system, the spark plugs are supplied with the required ignition energy directly by two ignition coils.
- A new valve in the evaporation control system allows purging of captured fuel vapour from the active carbon canister depending on the engine load.
- The fuel pump is only activated during starting; if only the ignition is switched on, the fuel pump will not be switched on by the control unit. This modification was first introduced in MY '92 for all vehicles with MULTEC IEFI-6.
