· Ignition ON

· Using multimeter, measure voltage:

from: P35 wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick- up Ter. 1 and Ter. 2

to: ground

lower than 0.1 V
· Short circuit to voltage

from: K57 wiring harness plug for engine control unit Ter. B14 and A16

to: P35 wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick- up Ter. 1 and Ter. 2

· Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from: P35 wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick- up Ter. 1 and Ter. 2

to: groundhigher than 100 kW (¥)· Short circuit to ground

from: P35 wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick- up Ter. 1 and Ter. 2

· Ignition ON

· At starter speed Using multimeter, measure alternating voltage (AC ~)

higher than 1 V (AC ~)· P35 crankshaft pulse pick- up defective

· Further causes of fault:

· Burr on increment disc (58- tooth disc)

· Distance from inductive pulse pick- up up to increment disc incorrect.

· Check control unit calibration, see field remedy measuresLatest program memory (EPROM) according to field remedy measures or TIs
· Replace program memory (EPROM) according to field remedy measures or TIs
If nominal values are attained and latest program memory is installed· K57 engine control unit defective
· Further causes of fault when idle speed is too high or irregular.· Loose contact in P34 throttle valve potentiometer

· Throttle valve shaft worn out

· Throttle valve gap too large or too small, (change basic setting in emergencies only, see Service Instructions)

· Fault in tank vent system

· Engine takes in dead air

· Seat of M66 idle speed stepper motor dirty

· Spark plugs defective

· Mixture too lean or too rich

· Battery voltage too high / low

· Odometer frequency sensor / instrument defective or circuit interrupted
