15IDLE AIR CONTROLEngine running at idle speed, operating temperature. If the number of steps falls under 8 or exceeds 26 (at idle speed without load) for a period of time longer than 10 s, the control unit resets the stepper motor after ignition OFF. After waiting 5 s, restart engine. If, after this procedure, the number of steps is less than 8 or higher than 26, begin trouble-shooting.

If the number of steps is always near the 26 threshold (24 to 28), make sure that 26 steps are exceeded for longer than 10 s by switching on a consumer (LAMP, REAR SCREEN HEATING, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION in "D"). Then proceed as described above.

A stepper motor test is also carried out if the control unit has been disconnected from the vehicle electrical system.

(If nominal value is not attained)

· Slowly increase engine speed to 4000 rpm by actuating the accelerator cable, maintain briefly and then allow to sink to idle speed again.

· Wait approx. 5 sec. (Astra-F C 14 SE)

· Ignition OFF, ignition ON

(Corsa-A/Nova, Corsa-B, Astra-F C 16 SE)

· Engine running at idle speed, operating temperature

Astra-F C 16 SE

(Corsa-A/Nova, Corsa-B, Astra-F C 16 SE)

820 to 980 rpm

820 to 980 rpm

850 to 1010 rpm

· Carry out test step 06

· Select TECH 1 mode "F8"

· Using arrow keys, increase idle speed (1500 rpm) and decrease (1000 rpm)

Engine speed increases and decreases.

· Throttle valve gap too large or too small (basic adjustment may only be changed in emergencies, see next page but one)

· Engine takes in dead air

· Trouble code 21 and 22 set

· Ignition OFF

· Disconnect plug from idle speed adjuster M 66

· Ignition ON

· TECH 1 in mode "F5" IDLE AIR CONTROL

· Measure voltage: (20V/AC)

from: wiring harness plug Ter. A

to: wiring harness plug Ter. C

and

from: wiring harness plug Ter. B

to: wiring harness plug Ter. D

A/C: 5.6 to 6.9 ~volts

B/D: 5.6 to 6.9 ~volts

· Lead interruption

from: stepper motor A, C, B, D

to: control unit Ter. C 9, C 5, C 8, C 6

· Ignition OFF

· Remove motor M 66

· Connect plug to idle speed adjuster M 66

· Ignition ON

Compress pintle slightly with thumbs

Pintle moves in and

out noticeably

· Servo motor defective

· Ignition OFF

· Measure resistance of coils A-B and C-D

(wiring harness plug is disconnected)

55 W - 65 W (cold)

45 W - 60 W (warm)

· Servo motor defective

· Further causes

· Throttle valve gap too large or too small

· Engine takes in dead air

· Seat of servo motor dirty

· Spark plugs defective

· Mixture too lean or too rich

· Battery voltage too high/low

· Odometer frequency sensor / instrument defective or circuit interrupted

· Dual-Info-Display defective or short circuit to ground in odometer frequency sensor lead from Dual-Info-Display to control unit K 57/K 91
