· Remove plugs from the throttle valve potentiometer P 34, intake manifold pressure sensor P 23.

coolant temperature sensor P 30, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18, exhaust gas recirculation module V 15 and control unit K 57.

· Ignition ON

· Measure voltage:

from: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation module V 15 Ter. A

to: ground and

to: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation module V 15 Ter. Dgreater than 11 V
greater than 11 V· Lead interruption

from: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation module V 15 Ter. A

to: ignition lock S 1 Ter. 15

from: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation module V 15 Ter. D

from: ground

· Short circuit in wiring harness

from: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation module V 15 Ter. A

· Measure voltage:

Bridge control unit plug Ter. A 9 to ground

· Measure voltage:

from: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation module Y 18 Ter. A

to: battery +

greater than 11 V· Exhaust gas recirculation module V 15 defective.

Part 2

· Ignition ON

· Measure voltage:

from: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. E

to: ground

greater than 11 V· Lead interruption

from: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. E

to: ignition lock S 1 Ter. 15

· Short circuit in wiring harness

from: wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. E

to: ground

· Ignition OFF

· Connect exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. E to + 12 V

· Pulse exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. A to ground

The exhaust gas recirculation valve is audibly activated

· Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from: exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. A

to: exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. E7.8 to 8.6 W

(at 20 C / 68° F)

9.5 to 10.3 W

(at 80 °C / l76 °F)· Exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 defective.
If nominal values attained· Control unit defective

· Exhaust gas recirculation valve spindle broken
