Ignition Module
The ignition module is designed a compact component and is positioned on the cylinder head cover between the two camshafts, connected to the spark plugs.
The module contains the following components:
- Wiring harness plug from the engine control unit
- One individual ignition coil per cylinder
- Integrated spark plug connectors
The ignition module is actuated by the engine control unit via a central wiring harness plug (1). There is one ignition coil (2) for each cylinder, positioned directly above the integrated spark plug connector (3) for each cylinder.
The ignition coils, provided with low voltage by the engine control unit, then supply the spark plugs with the high voltage required to ignite the fuel/air mixture at the right moment. The compact design ensures that the spark plugs always function perfectly.
The advantages of the ignition module are:
- No loss in leads
- Decrease of electromagnetic interference
- Reduction of connection points
