Multec X 12 SZ Introductory Summary Opel Corsa B

Multec X 12 SZ

Introductory Summary

The new X 12 SZ engines include several new components to conform to future European exhaust emission regulations.

- The MULTEC system contains an electronic knock control which automatically adapts ignition to the quality of fuel used. An octane number plug is not necessary.

- In the interest of good driveability and low fuel consumption, Adam Opel Aktiengesellschaft/Vauxhall Motors Ltd. recommend that fuel of at least 95 RON(premium unleaded) be used. If no other fuel is available, 91 RON (regular unleaded) can also be used.

- In contrast to the C 12 NZ engine with the conventional high voltage distributor, the X 12 SZ engines use DIS (Direct Ignition System). In this new distributorless system, the spark plugs are supplied directly with the necessary ignition energy by two ignition coils.

- An electric valve (CCP) in the evaporation control system allows optimal purging (regeneration) of the active carbon canister.

- An electronically controlled exhaust gas recirculation valve (linear EGR) guides combusted mixture back into the combustion process. This considerably reduces NOx emission.

- More exact spark timing is made possible by inductive engine speed determination using an integrated 58 tooth disc on the crankshaft.

The X 12 SZ engines start production in MY '93 1/2.
