The mixture correction is carried out at idle speed / partial load via the O2 BLM CELL, CONT if the integrator deviates for an extended period of time from the ideal (stochiometric) air / fuel ratio, and the full load enrichment is ACTIVE.

The cell number specified in test step 13 (O2 BLM CELL NO. ) determines whether the modification (mixture correction) in the memory for idle speed or in the memory for partial load is carried out, As the control units are differently programmed, it is not possible to specify the precise boundaries or transition points between the various cell numbers. In case the O2 BLM CELL NO. 18 or 19 is not attained at idle speed at operating temperature, check first whether the engine is actually idling, or whether some other load condition (e. g. created by air leaks or switched - on air conditioning) dominates.

If the value of test step 13 lies permanently beyond the allowed limits, and the control unit or engine is OK, then do not pursue this test step any further. If however a complaint is present or engine operation is not OK, replace the control unit after checking for air leaks or other damage.

The O2 BLM CELL CONT has the following function:

to increase the value (when the mixture is too lean so that the integrator is greater than 128) until the integrator returns to an average value of 128.

or: to decrease the value (when the mixture is too rich so that the integrator is less than 128) until the integrator returns to an average value of 128.

The O2 BLM CELL CONT value is a standard for component tolerances, but also responds to effects of engine friction, air leaks, etc.

· This test step specifies the content of the block learn method cell occupied by the system. If an incorrect step number is indicated, check for the following causes of faults:

· Possible causes of fault· Engine running time too brief

(engine cold)

· Coolant temperature sensor P 30 defective

· Throttle valve potentiometer P 34 defective

· Oxygen sensor P 32 defective

· Mass air flow meter P 52 defective

· If the systems designated by the cause of fault do not register as defective, replace the control unit

· Control unit defective
