Engine, Repair Using Short-Block
Remove engine with transmission - see operation "Engine with Transmission, Remove and Install".
Suspend engine and transmission on workshop crane.
For vehicles with automatic transmission: Detach fastening bolts from converter.
Detach transmission from engine at flange.
Mount engine with Adapter KM-412-18 (1) on Assembly Stands KM-412 (2).
Remove all necessary engine attaching parts - see corresponding operations.
Clean all parts for damage and wear.
Assemble new short block.
Emboss engine number in new cylinder block with embossing numerals.
Drive centring sleeves into cylinder block (up to stop) with KM-427.
The cylinder head must be aligned to the timing case with a straight edge (1) before it is tightened up to the recommended tightening torque.
The cylinder head is not permitted to protrude under any circumstances.
Install all engine attaching parts - see "Recommended Torque Values" for tightening torques
Suspend engine on workshop crane.
Attach transmission to engine - for tightening torque see "Recommended Torque Values".
For vehicles with automatic transmission: attach converter to drive disc - tightening torque 45 Nm / 33 lbf. ft.
Install engine with transmission - see operation "Engine with Transmission, Remove and Install".
