X 10 XE DOHC Engine

The X 10 XE three-cylinder engine is a completely new development in the Opel ECOTEC engine series. This unit is the first three-cylinder engine to be made available. The X 10 XE three-cylinder engine will be available as the base engine in the Corsa-B as of May 1997. Initially, the X 10 XE engine will only be available with manual transmission and without air conditioning.

• Valve actuation via 2 hollow camshafts and low-friction roller cam followers
• Maintenance-free micro hydraulic valve lifters
• Engine timing via maintenance-free timing chain
• Timing case with integrated oil and coolant pump
• 3-way catalytic converter installed close to the engine
• Hybrid design engine control unit
• Ignition module with individual ignition coils and integrated spark plug connectors
• Hot film mass air flow meter with backflow recognition
• Camshaft sensor and phase sensor disc for fast recognition of camshaft angle for an exhaust-optimised starting phase
• Drive of coolant pump and auxiliary aggregates via maintenance-free ribbed V-belt
• Construction designed for easy servicing, recycling and maintenance, e.g. replaceable paper oil filter cartridge
• Equipment for further reduction of exhaust emissions (EU stage 3)

Location of Engine Number

The engine number is stamped on the cylinder block, on a flat surface below the oil filter housing (arrow).
