How to Adjust the Timing Opel Corsa B

Timing, Adjust the Requirement for This Operation Is That the Valve Timings Have Been Checked and Thus the Crankshaft Is Locked with the Positioning Pin KM-952 at the "1st Cylinder Ignition TDC".

If fitted:

Remove or disassemble Positioning Tool KM-954 and Positioning Tool KM-953 - Special Service Tools must not be used to counterhold.

Detach chain tensioner closure bolt (1) from timing case.

Lock chain tensioner with KM-955-1 (2) - for this subject intake camshaft to tensioning in direction of engine rotation (direction of arrow) via hexagonal section and using open-ended spanner.

Remove camshaft sprocket fastening bolt (2) - thereby counterholding with open-ended spanner on hex of camshaft (1).

Insert new fastening bolts for camshaft sprockets and handtighten - it must be possible to rotate phase sensor disc on intake camshaft by hand.

Turn camshaft carefully and uniformly.

Turn camshafts at hex (short path) until Positioning Tool KM-953 (1) can be inserted into grooves of camshafts.

Positioning Tool KM-953 must engage in grooves in camshafts to the stop.

Thereby ensure that camshafts are set to "1st Cylinder TDC" - in this position cams (2) point outwards.

Remove Engagement Pin KM-955-1 from chain tensioner.

Turn phase sensor disc (2) so that Positioning Tool KM-954 (1) can be attached to the timing case.

Attach Positioning Tool KM-954 to timing case. Tighten fastening bolts on camshaft pulleys to 10 Nm / 7 lbf. ft.

The tightening torque of 10 Nm / 7 lbf. ft. for the fastening bolts for the camshaft sprockets is not a final tightening torque, this is simply used for locating the camshaft sprockets and the phase sensor disc.

Disassemble or remove Positioning Tool KM-954, Positioning Tool KM-953 and Positioning Pin KM-952.

Tighten fastening bolts for camshaft sprockets - tightening torque 50 Nm / 37 lbf. ft. + 60�

Move crankshaft approx. 720� in direction of engine rotation to just before "1st Cylinder TDC" position using fastening bolt for crankshaft hub.

The mark (3) on the crankshaft belt pulley is located just in front of the lug (2) on the timing case. In this position the cams of the 1st cylinder (1) are positioned just before "TDC" (both cams point outwards).

Turn crankshaft slowly and uniformly.

Insert Positioning Pin KM-952 (3) into opening and, at the same time, at the fastening bolt of the crankshaft hub, slowly further turn crankshaft in the engine rotational direction until the positioning pin engages in base plate of cylinder block or crankshaft web to the stop.

In this position, mark (2) on crankshaft belt pulley must align with lug (1) on timing case.

Insert Positioning Tool KM-953 (1) into camshafts - KM-953 must engage in grooves of camshafts to the stop.

Position Positioning Tool KM-954 (1) on the phase sensor disc (2) and attach to timing case.

Disassemble or remove Positioning Tool KM-954, Positioning Tool KM-953 and Positioning Pin KM-952.

Attach chain tensioner closure bolt to timing case with new seal ring - tightening torque 50 Nm / 37 lbf. ft.

Install closure bolt for crankshaft lock in cylinder block base plate with new seal ring - tightening torque 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft.

Install lower right wheel housing panelling.

Install cylinder head cover - see operation "Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install."

Install air cleaner housing with air duct pipe, hot film mass air flow meter and air intake cover - see illustration "Air Duct X 10 XE", or "Air Duct X 12 XE".
