Poor Engine Driveability

Loss of performance, engine dies or bad idling after short driving distance (100 - 1000 m), ambient temperature less than +10 �C, vehicle stands longer than 8 hours (mostly over night).

Cause:

The shaft-diameters of the exhaust valves are too big.

Production Solution:

As of engine X10XE-B40637 exhaust valves are introduced with smaller shaft-diameters.

Remedy:

Install exhaust valves with smaller shaft-diameters.

Caution: The problem appears only in the warm-up phase of the engine. When the coolant temperature is higher 90�C, the engine has no problem. If the engine has the problem with warm engine too, this field remedy instruction isn�t valid.

Diagnosis:

1.)�� Call up the trouble codes. Is a trouble code set, so it has to rectified in accordance with the checking instructions.

2.)�� The EGR-valve value must be lower than 1.75 V on idling (warm engine).

Caution : If the EGR-valve value is higher than 1.75 V, please contact TIC, Aftersales.

Operation:

Follow the operations detailed in the Service Instruction Corsa-B 01/98 "Remove and Refit Cylnder head" and "Disassemble and Assemble Cylinder head".

Especially Note:

Remove the exhaust valves and the sealing caps.

Clean the borings and the valve guides with engine oil, don�t use metal articles.

Fit the new exhaust valve with oiled stem.

Hone and clean the valve seat.

Fit the new valve guide seals.

Inadmissible Operations:

Modifications on intake components.

Machining procedures on cylinder head, valve seats, valve guides on the exhaust side.

Changes of critical dimensions by reworking.

Reworking of the complete cylinder head by other companies.
