Remove
- 1. Remove piston with con-rod
- 2. Remove piston rings using piston ring pliers (1) • Remove deposited oil coke from groove using broken and tapered piston ring
- 3. Measure piston ring joint play • Clamp piston ring in cylinder and measure joint with feeler gauge • Permitted joint play: – Rectangular ring (2): 0.25 to 0.50 mm – Compression ring (3): 0.25 to 0.50 mm – Oil scraper ring (4): 0.25 to 0.75 mm
- 4. Check piston ring height play with feeler gauge in groove • Permitted height play – Rectangular compression ring (1): 0.040 - 0.075 – Tapered compression ring (2): 0.030 - 0.070 – Oil scraper ring (3): 0.030 - 0.130
Install
- 5. Install piston rings • Insert in the piston with piston ring pliers and marking "TOP" at the top • Set piston ring gap – First piston ring (rectangular ring) in position (1) – Second piston ring (compression ring) in position (2) – Intermediate ring of oil scraper ring in position (3), steel band ring of oil scraper ring in position (4) or (5)
- 6. Fit pistons with con-rods
