The exhaust manifold is partly separated by pulses.
This means that the exhaust gases from cylinders 1 and 4 are conducted separately from those of cylinders 2 and 3 to the turbine shaft of the turbocharger.
This creates an advantage of a shorter reaction time and therefore better engine utilisation, as the flow of exhaust gases is more powerful if it is not disturbed by the flow of exhaust gases from the other cylinders.
The gas exchange in the cylinders also benefits in the same way.
Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor
In the Z 20 NET DOHC Turbo petrol engine, an exhaust gas temperature sensor is being used for the first time.
The task of the exhaust gas temperature sensor is to monitor the temperature of the exhaust gases after the catalytic converter.
In order to prevent the catalytic converter from being damaged as a result of overheating, the exhaust gas temperature sensor communicates with the engine management system, warning it in the event that exhaust gas temperatures are excessively high.
The engine management system is able to react so promptly and change the engine parameters to such an extent that the temperature of the exhaust gases is reduced.
The exhaust gas temperature sensor (1) is located after the catalytic converter in the catalytic converter housing.
