Check Engine Compression Loss (Z 16 XE) Opel Vectra C

DOHC Petrol Engine 7 illustrations ~521 words

Note. Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature min. 80°C).

  1. 1. Open bonnet
  2. 2. Remove engine cover. • Unscrew oil filler pipe cap • Unscrew 2x bolt
  3. 3. Remove air cleaner housing (1) • Disconnect wiring harness plug (3) – Intake air temperature sensor • Unclip wiring harness (arrows) • Detach engine vent hose (2) • Detach intake hose • Remove bolt (3)
  1. 4. Remove upper part of toothed belt cover • Unscrew 3x bolt (1) • Unclip from rear toothed belt cover
  1. 5. Raise vehicle
  2. 6. Remove ribbed V-belt cover • Unscrew 4x bolt
  1. 7. Make 2x aid marks (arrows). • On crankshaft pulley

Note. 180° offset to the TDC cylinder 1 mark.

  1. 8. Lower vehicle
  2. 9. Remove ignition module. • Disconnect wiring harness plug • Unscrew 4x bolt • Use KM-6009 (1)

Note. Do not tilt.

  1. 10. Remove 4x spark plugs. • Use KM-194-E
  2. 11. Set cylinder 1 to TDC. • Set crankshaft to mark. – Turn crankshaft evenly • Fix camshaft sprockets in position. – Insert KM-852

Note. Marks on crankshaft ribbed V-belt pulley and front toothed belt cover (2) must align.

Note. Marks must be opposite one another and aligned with the top edge of the cylinder head (1).

Important. Slowly and carefully open the coolant expansion tank cap. Risk of combustion.

  1. 12. Unscrew the coolant expansion tank cap.
  2. 13. Remove oil dipstick
  3. 14. Fit adapter (1) and compression loss tester to cylinder 1.

Note. Ensure that the adapter is sufficiently long. The adapter coupling must be easily accessible. Do not damage the spark plug thread.

  1. 15. Engage gear and apply hand brake.

Note. Wheels must be in contact with the ground.

  1. 16. Test compression loss on cylinder 1. • With compression loss tester

Note. Note manufacturer's instructions.

  1. 17. Check engine compression loss
  2. 18. Set cylinder 3 to TDC.
  3. 19. Fit adapter and compression loss tester to cylinder 3.
  4. 20. Test compression loss on cylinder 3.
  5. 21. Set cylinder 4 to TDC.
  6. 22. Fit adapter and compression loss tester to cylinder 4.
  7. 23. Test compression loss on cylinder 4.
  8. 24. Set cylinder 2 to TDC.
  9. 25. Fit adapter and compression loss tester to cylinder 2.
  10. 26. Test compression loss on cylinder 2.
  11. 27. Remove compression loss tester.
  12. 28. Engage neutral.
  13. 29. Remove adapter from cylinder 2.
  14. 30. Fit 4x spark plugs • Use KM-194-E – Tightening torque 25 Nm .
  15. 31. Install ignition module • Unscrew KM-6009 • Tighten 4x bolt – Tightening torque 8 Nm . • Connect wiring harness plug.
  16. 32. Insert oil dipstick
  17. 33. Screw on coolant expansion tank cap.
  18. 34. Install upper part of toothed belt cover • Clip to rear of toothed belt cover • Tighten 3x bolt – Tightening torque 4 Nm .
  19. 35. Install air cleaner housing • Install suction hose • Attach engine vent hose • Connect wiring harness plug. • Attach wiring harness
  20. 36. Install engine cover. • Tighten 2x bolt – Tightening torque 8 Nm . • Screw on oil filler pipe cap
  21. 37. Raise vehicle
  22. 38. Install ribbed V-belt cover • Tighten 4x bolt
  23. 39. Lower vehicle
  24. 40. Close bonnet
