How to Replace the Piston Rings Opel Vectra C

Remove

1. 1. Remove piston with con-rod
2. 2. Clamp piston with con-rod in vice

Note. Use protective jaws

3. 3. Remove 3x piston rings • Remove spiral-type expander of oil scraper ring from piston ring groove

Note. Remove piston rings with piston ring pliers (1). Pay attention to piston ring assignments

4. 4. Clean ring grooves

Note. Remove residue of carbonised oil from piston ring groove with a broken and ground piston ring

Measure

5. 5. Measure gap • Insert 3x new piston rings in cylinder • Measure joint play with feeler gauge
6. 6. Measure vertical play • Insert 3x new piston rings into piston ring groove • Measure vertical play with feeler gauge

Note. Pay attention to marks (arrow) on compression rings

Install

7. 7. Install 3x piston rings with piston ring pliers • Insert spiral-type expander of oil scraper ring into piston ring groove • Install oil scraper ring • Install 2x compression rings

Note. Pay attention to marks on compression rings

8. 8. Remove piston with con-rod from vice
9. 9. Fit pistons with con-rods
