- 1. Check engine for leaks • Condition: Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature >= 80 °C).
- 2. Open bonnet
- 3. Check coolant level. • Correct coolant level if necessary
- 4. Unscrew cover of coolant compensation tank • Release pressure carefully
- 5. Attach tester • To coolant compensation tank
Note. Note manufacturer-specific regulations
- 6. Start engine.
- 7. Check engine for leaks Operation: In the clear cylinder of the tester there is a blue reactive fluid that turns yellow when air is suctioned containing the smallest amount of carbon monoxide. When fresh air is suctioned, the test fluid is regenerated, i.e. turns back to blue. The fluid can be checked by exposing it to exhaust emissions from the exhaust pipe. The test fluid should then turn yellow.
Note. Actuating the rubber bellows siphons air from the coolant compensation tank. Ensure that no coolant is drawn in. If the blue fluid in the upper chamber of the tester turns yellow, the cylinder head gasket or the cylinder head is leaking.
- 8. Detach tester Warning: Cooling system is under pressure. • Release pressure carefully
- 9. Seal off coolant compensation tank
- 10. Close bonnet
