Check Valve Lash and Adjust Opel Vectra C

Remove

1. 1. Open bonnet
2. 2. Disconnect battery.
3. 3. Release front wheel • Release 5x bolt
4. 4. Raise vehicle
5. 5. Detach front wheel • Unscrew 5x bolt
6. 6. Raise vehicle
7. 7. Detach lower engine compartment cover and right-hand engine splash protection if necessary
8. 8. Lower vehicle
9. 9. Detach engine cover. • Unscrew 2x bolt • Unscrew oil filler cap • Remove engine cover • Screw in oil filler cap
10. 10. Release 2x vacuum lines • Unscrew 2x bolt (arrows)

11. 11. Detach 2x hoses (1) • Release 2x clamp

12. 12. Detach camshaft housing cover • Unscrew 7x bolt (arrows)

13. 13. Turn crankshaft • Turn crankshaft until pair of cams (1) are pointing upwards.

14. 14. Check valve clearance • With feeler gauge – Test values: Intake valves 0.3 ± 0.05 mm /exhaust valves 0.35 mm ± 0.05 mm

Note. The valve clearance is checked with the engine cold - room temperature.

15. 15. Adjust valve clearance • Turn valve lifter until lifter groove points outwards • Press valve lifters down – Use EN-46797 (1), EN-46799 (2) • Remove adjusting washer

Important. Care must be taken that the valves are not adjusted when the piston is at "TDC". The valves can strike the piston head

16. 16. Example for determination of disc thickness 1. Thickness of the adjusting washer fitted 3.15 mm 2. Measured value between cam and valve lifter + 0.45 mm = 3.60 mm 3. Required value for valve clearance - 0.40 mm
17. 17. Insert 2x adjusting washer • Coat new adjusting washer with engine oil and insert in valve lifter with the marking pointing downwards • Remove EN-46799 .
18. 18. Turn crankshaft • Turn in the direction of engine rotation until the pair of cams (2) are pointing upwards – Check and adjust • Turn in the direction of engine rotation until the pair of cams (3) are pointing upwards – Check and adjust • Turn in the direction of engine rotation until the pair of cams (4) are pointing upwards – Check and adjust

Note. The valve clearance must be checked again on all the valves adjusted.

19. 19. Clean sealing surface
20. 20. Attach camshaft housing cover • Transfer oil filler cap • Replace gasket • 7x bolts 10 Nm
21. 21. Attach 2x hose • Secure 2x clamp
22. 22. Fasten 2x vacuum lines • 2x bolts 9 Nm
23. 23. Attach engine cover. • Unscrew oil filler cap • Place engine cover in position • Screw in oil filler cap • 2x bolts 9 Nm
24. 24. Raise vehicle
25. 25. Attach lower engine compartment cover and right-hand engine splash protection if removed
26. 26. Lower vehicle
27. 27. Attach front wheel • Screw in 5x bolt
28. 28. Lower vehicle
29. 29. Secure front wheel • 5x bolts 110 Nm
30. 30. Connect battery.
31. 31. Program volatile memories
32. 32. Close bonnet
