Support from starter (if present).

Bearing cap from collector.

Remove armature retaining clip (1) and spacer washer(s) (2) from armature shaft, note rubber seal (3).

Collector bearing

Stator mounting screws (1).

Brush holder plate from armature.

Using suitable remover hook (bent electrode wire), remove positive carbon brushes from brush holder.

Field windings connection - from solenoid switch.

Solenoid switch.

Unscrew from drive bearing.

Pull back and detach.

Stator.

Axle for engaging lever - unscrew nut (1).

Sealing plate (2).

Armature with engaging lever (1) from drive bearing.

Engaging lever.

Retaining ring.

Knock back on armature shaft.

Snap ring (1) - use pliers (commercially available).

Lubricate sliding parts - Grease 19 48 606 (90 510 336).

Free wheel with pinion, disc, new snap ring - press retaining ring over snap ring with 2 wrenches.

Armature with engaging lever - install into drive bearing.

Sealing plate - install with metal side to drive bearing.

Collector bearing.

Note alignment of bores in brush holder.
