  1. 7. Remove 3 injectors (3), cylinders 2, 4 and 6

Inspect

  1. 8. Raise vehicle by its entire height
  2. 9. Detach engine compartment cover and right-hand engine splash guard if present
  3. 10. Lower vehicle by its entire height
  4. 11. Turn crankshaft

Note. Turn crankshaft evenly in the direction of engine rotation. Camshaft pair for cylinder 1 must be at the top.

  1. 12. Check 4x valve lash, cylinder 1 • With feeler gauge – Test values: Intake valves/exhaust valves 0.40 mm!

Note. Check valve play with the engine cold - room temperature.

  1. 13. Turn bucket tappet (1) until tappet groove (2) points outwards

Important. The valves may not strike the crown of the piston. Use a suitable cover to seal oil bores and camshaft housing over the entire width. The adjusting discs can slip or stick.

  1. 14. Using EN-46797 (1), press down intake valve 1 on cylinder 1. • Using EN-46799 (2), lock intake valve 1 on cylinder 1.

Note. Place EN-46799 between outside edge of bucket tappet and shim. Do not block the shim

  1. 15. Lever out shim with a suitable tool, and remove
  2. 16. Determining new shim thickness • Thickness of the adjusting disc fitted plus valve play measured minus preset value produces the thickness of the new adjusting disc
  3. 17. Insert adjusting disc

Note. Coat new adjusting disc with engine oil. Insert in valve lifter with marking pointing downwards.

  1. 18. Remove EN-46799

Note. Hold down bucket tappet with EN-46797 and remove EN-46799 .

  1. 19. Turn bucket tappet of intake valve 2 until tappet groove points outwards

Important. The valves may not strike the crown of the piston. Use a suitable cover to seal oil bores and camshaft housing over the entire width. The adjusting discs can slip or stick.

  1. 20. Using EN-46797 , press down intake valve 2 on cylinder 1. • Using EN-46799 , lock intake valve 2 on cylinder 1.

Note. Place EN-46799 between outside edge of bucket tappet and shim. Do not block the shim

  1. 21. Determining new shim thickness • Thickness of the adjusting disc fitted plus valve play measured minus preset value produces the thickness of the new adjusting disc
  2. 22. Insert adjusting disc

Note. Coat new adjusting disc with engine oil. Insert in valve lifter with marking pointing downwards.

  1. 23. Remove EN-46799

Note. Hold down bucket tappet with EN-46797 and remove EN-46799 .

  1. 24. Turn crankshaft

Note. Turn crankshaft evenly until the camshaft pair exhaust side cylinder 1 are at the top.

  1. 25. Turn bucket tappet of exhaust valve 1 until tappet groove points outwards

Important. The valves may not strike the crown of the piston. Use a suitable cover to seal oil bores and camshaft housing over the entire width. The adjusting discs can slip or stick.

  1. 26. Using EN-46797 , press down exhaust valve 1 on cylinder 1. • Using EN-46799 , lock exhaust valve 1 on cylinder 1.

Note. Place EN-46799 between outside edge of bucket tappet and shim. Do not block the shim

  1. 27. Determining new shim thickness • Thickness of the adjusting disc fitted plus valve play measured minus preset value produces the thickness of the new adjusting disc
  2. 28. Insert adjusting disc

Note. Coat new adjusting disc with engine oil. Insert in valve lifter with marking pointing downwards.

  1. 29. Remove EN-46799

Note. Hold down bucket tappet with EN-46797 and remove EN-46799 .

  1. 30. Turn bucket tappet of exhaust valve 2 until tappet groove points outwards

Important. The valves may not strike the crown of the piston. Use a suitable cover to seal oil bores and camshaft housing over the entire width. The adjusting discs can slip or stick.

  1. 31. Using EN-46797 , press down exhaust valve 2 on cylinder 1. • Using EN-46799 , lock exhaust valve 2 on cylinder 1.

Note. Place EN-46799 between outside edge of bucket tappet and shim. Do not block the shim

  1. 32. Determining new shim thickness • Thickness of the adjusting disc fitted plus valve play measured minus preset value produces the thickness of the new adjusting disc
