Measure Piston Projection Opel Vectra C

Note. The piston projection is measured and hence a different gasket thickness selected only on a change to the crank drive. Otherwise fit a cylinder head gasket of the same type.

Measure

  1. 1. Clean 6x cylinder base
  2. 2. Adjust dial gauge (cylinder-2-4-6) • Fit MKM-571-B with KM-301 • Set MKM-571-B to "zero"

Note. Use external bore on KM-301

  1. 3. Measure 2x piston projection (cylinders 2 and 6) • Note dimensions

Note. Use measuring points (1) and (6). Determine highest point by turning the crankshaft. The piston assembly must be replaced if a measurement under 0.4 mm or above 0.6 mm is obtained.

  1. 4. Transfer dial gauge (cylinder-2-4-6)

Note. Use centre bore on KM-301

  1. 5. Measure 4x piston projection (cylinder 2-4-6) • Note dimensions

Note. Use measurement points (2) to (5)

  1. 6. Adjust dial gauge (cylinder 1-3-5) • Fit MKM-571-B with KM-301 • Set MKM-571-B to "zero"

Note. Use external bore on KM-301

  1. 7. Measure 2x piston projection (cylinders 1 and 5) • Note dimensions

Note. Use measuring points (1) and (6). Determine highest point by turning the crankshaft. The piston assembly must be replaced if a measurement under 0.4 mm or above 0.6 mm is obtained.

  1. 8. Transfer dial gauge (cylinder 1-3-5)

Note. Use centre bore on KM-301

  1. 9. Measure 4x piston projection (cylinder-1-3-5) • Note dimensions

Note. Use measurement points (2) to (5)

Important. The greatest piston projection found is decisive for the selection of cylinder head gasket with the corresponding marking. The marking (1 to 3 notches) is at item (2). Item (1) shows use. Gasket for cylinder head 1-3-5 is marked "R", and gasket for cylinder head 2-4-6 is marked "L".

  1. 10. Determine gasket thickness from the piston projection. • see "Technical Data "
  2. 11. Remove dial gauge
  3. 12. Turn crankshaft

Note. Use a mirror. Turn crankshaft to cylinder 1 TDC. Marking on torsional vibration damper and marking on toothed belt drive wheel must align with lugs on timing case cover. Turn crankcase back to approx. 60° before TDC of combustion stroke, cylinder 1.

Important. Note position (1). Cylinder head gasket-2-4-6 is marked with "L". Cylinder head gasket-1-3-5 is marked with "R". The marking (1 to 3 notches) is at position (2). Note guide bushings.

  1. 13. Fit 2x new cylinder head gasket
  1. 14. Set crankshaft to around 60° before cylinder 1 TDC on combustion stroke
