How to Replace the Piston Rings Opel Vectra C

Remove

  1. 1. Remove all pistons with con-rods
  2. 2. Remove 3x piston rings • Clamp con-rod in vice • Detach piston rings with piston ring pliers (1) • Remove spiral-type expander of oil scraper ring from piston ring groove

Note. Use protective jaws

  1. 3. Clean ring grooves

Note. Remove residue of carbonised oil from the piston ring groove with a broken and ground piston ring.

Measure

  1. 4. Measure gap • Insert 3x new piston rings in cylinder • Measure joint play with feeler gauge

Note. Note marking on 1st compression ring ("T") and 2nd compression ring ("T2")

  1. 5. Measure vertical play • Measure vertical play with feeler gauge

Note. Insert 3x new piston rings in grooves. Note allocation on compression rings ("T", "T2"). 1st compression ring ("T") (I), 2nd compression ring ("T2") (II), oil scraper ring (III).

Install

  1. 6. Attach 3x piston ring (1...4) 1. 1. Compression ring ("T") 2. 2. Compression ring ("T2") 3. Oil scraper ring 4. Spiral-type expander • Use piston ring pliers • Remove con-rod from vice

Note. Markings on the compression rings ("T", "T2") must point upwards

  1. 7. Fit all pistons with con-rods
