Remove
- 1. Remove both camshaft housings
- 2. Detach vacuum pump (1) • Unscrew 4x bolt • Remove gasket.
- 3. Release camshaft sprocket, cylinders 2-4-6 (1) • Counterhold it with KM-6379 (3) together with KM-956-1 (2) • Loosen bolt
Note. 2nd mechanic is required.
- 4. Remove camshaft sprocket, cylinders 2, 4 and 6 • Remove bolt
Important. Do not damage sealing surfaces.
- 5. Remove seal ring, camshaft, cylinders-2-4-6 • Use KM-J-45000 (1)
- 6. Remove housing, camshaft sprocket, cylinders 2-4-6 (1) • Unscrew 4x bolt • Separate housing, camshaft sprocket, with KM-J-37228 • Remove camshaft seal ring
- 7. Release 4x bearing cover, camshaft-2-4-6 (1) • Release 8x nut
- 8. Remove camshaft bearing cover (2) (bearing number 4) • Unscrew 2x nut
Note. Bearing cover, engine timing side.
- 9. Remove 2x camshaft 2-4-6 • Remove inlet camshaft bearing cover (1) (bearing number 5) – Unscrew 2x bolt • Remove 3x camshaft bearing cover (3) – Unscrew 6x nut
- 10. Clamp exhaust camshaft in vice
Note. Use aluminium protective jaws; do not damage cams
- 11. Dismantle exhaust camshaft • Detach retaining ring (1) • Remove compensating washer, spring washer (2) • Remove spring (3)
Important. Ensure the retainer (1) is seated correctly in the groove.
- 12. Assembly exhaust camshaft • Insert spring • Insert sprocket • Insert spring washer, compensating washer (2) • Install retainer (1)
Note. Ensure spring is seated correctly.
Note. The recesses on the washers must match the fixing bore (arrow).
- 13. Fix tooth backlash balancer • Use KM-6378 (3)
Note. Turn tooth backlash balancer until pin (diameter approx. 3 mm) can be inserted in the fixing bore (arrow).
- 14. Release exhaust camshaft from vice
- 15. Release camshaft sprocket, cylinders 1-3-5 (1) • Counterhold it with KM-6379 (3) together with KM-956-1 (2) • Loosen bolt
Note. 2nd mechanic is required.
- 16. Remove camshaft sprocket, cylinders-1-3-5 • Remove bolt
Important. Do not damage sealing surfaces.
- 17. Remove seal ring, camshaft, cylinders 1-3-5 • Use KM-J-45000 (1)
- 18. Remove housing, camshaft sprocket, cylinders 1-3-5 (1) • Unscrew 4x bolt • Separate housing, camshaft sprocket, with KM-J-37228 • Remove camshaft seal ring
- 19. Detach camshaft housing cover for cylinder-1-3-5 (1) • Unscrew 2x bolt • Unscrew 2x nut • Remove Seal ring
- 20. Release 4x bearing cover, camshaft 1-3-5 (1) • Release 8x nut
- 21. Remove 2x camshaft-1-3-5 • Remove 4x camshaft bearing cover – Unscrew 8x nut
- 22. Clamp exhaust camshaft in vice
Note. Use aluminium protective jaws; do not damage cams
- 23. Dismantle exhaust camshaft • Detach retaining ring (1) • Remove compensating washer, spring washer (2) • Remove spring (3)
Important. Ensure the retainer (1) is seated correctly in the groove.
- 24. Assembly exhaust camshaft • Insert spring • Insert sprocket • Insert spring washer, compensating washer (2) • Install retainer (1)

- 25. Fix tooth backlash balancer • Use KM-6378 (3)

- 26. Release exhaust camshaft from vice
Install
- 27. Clean sealing surface
Important. Note markings on camshaft sprockets (arrow). Coat camshaft bearing with engine oil. Note installed position of bearing cover.
- 28. Insert 2x camshaft 1-3-5 • Remove pin • Install 4x camshaft bearing cover – Apply a 0.8 to 1.2 mm bead (1) of sealant (grey) evenly to bearing covers numbers 1 (2) and 4 (3)! – Screw in 8x nut
- 29. Tighten 4x bearing cover, camshaft-1-3-5 • Tighten 8x nut 22 Nm
- 30. Clean sealing surface
- 31. Attach housing, camshaft sprocket-1-3-5 • Replace seal ring • Apply a 2-3 mm bead of sealant (grey) evenly (arrow)! • Tighten 4x bolt in the tightening sequence stated (1 to 4) 25 Nm
Note. Note guide bushings
Note. Screw in bolts (5) after fitting camshaft housing.
- 32. Install seal ring, camshaft cylinders-1-3-5 • Press seal ring with KM-6377 (1) and bolt - camshaft sprocket (2) flush into cover
- 33. Install camshaft sprocket, cylinders-1-3-5 • Screw in bolt
- 34. Fasten camshaft sprocket, cylinders-1-3-5 • Counterhold it with KM-6379 together with KM-956-1 • Tighten bolt 120 Nm
Note. 2nd mechanic is required.
- 35. Clean sealing surface
- 36. Attach cover, camshaft housing, cylinder 1-3-5 • Replace seal ring • Tighten 2x bolt 25 Nm • Tighten 2x nut 25 Nm
- 37. Clean sealing surface
Important. Note marks on camshaft gears (arrow). Note installation position of beariing cover.
- 38. Insert 2x camshaft-2-4-6 • Remove pin • Apply a 0.8 to 1.2 mm bead (1) of sealant (grey) evenly to bearing cover 1 (2). • Install bearing cover, inlet camshaft – Coat with engine oil – Screw in 2x bolt • Install 3x camshaft bearing cover – Coat with engine oil – Screw in 6x nut
- 39. Tighten bearing cover, inlet camshaft (bearing cover 5) • Tighten 2x bolt 12 Nm
- 40. Install camshaft bearing cover (3) (bearing 4) • Apply a 0.8 - 1.2 mm bead (1) of sealant (grey) evenly to bearing cover 4 • Screw in 2x nut
- 41. Tighten 4x bearing cover, camshaft • Tighten 8x nut 22 Nm
- 42. Clean sealing surface
- 43. Attach housing, camshaft sprocket 2-4-6 • Replace seal ring • Apply a 2-3 mm bead of sealant (grey) evenly (arrow) • Tighten 4x bolt in the tightening sequence stated (1 to 4) 25 Nm
Note. Note guide bushings
Note. Screw in bolts (5) after fitting camshaft housing.
- 44. Install seal ring, camshaft cylinders 2-4-6 • Press seal ring with KM-6377 (1) and bolt - camshaft sprocket (2) flush into cover
- 45. Install camshaft sprocket, cylinders 2, 4 and 6 • Screw in bolt
- 46. Fasten camshaft sprocket, cylinders 2, 4 and 6 • Counterhold it with KM-6379 together with KM-956-1 • Tighten bolt 120 Nm
Note. 2nd mechanic is required.
- 47. Clean sealing surface
- 48. Install vacuum pump • Replace gasket • Tighten 4x bolts 17 Nm
Note. Ensure drive is seated correctly
- 49. Install both valve spring housings
