Function
Like the C 16 XE engine, the new X 14 XE engines are equipped with sequential fuel injection and ignition timing (Multec-S)
Relative to the C 16 XE engine, the following changes and additions have been made:
· The load condition of the engine is notdetermined by a hot wire mass air flow meter as in the C 16 XE engine, but with an intake air temperature sensor and an intake manifold absolute pressure sensor.
· The Multec-S system for the X 14 XE and the X 16 XE engines uses linear exhaust gas recirculation, familiar from the X 12 SZ and X 16 SZ engines.
· For improved cold start emissions, secondary air injection is used (recombustion of hydrocarbons).
· For easier disassembly for diagnosis and reduction of engine noise, a two-piece intake manifold is used.
