The fault is recognised by the control unit if the measured exhaust gas recirculation valve aperture is less than 2 % for longer than 2 s.

· Self- test 2 of exhaust gas recirculation system (position measurement valve piston for exhaust gas recirculation valve open):
The control unit compares the nominal and the actual values of the exhaust gas recirculation valve aperture 9.5 s after self- test 1.
The fault is stored by the control unit if a deviation of more than 12.5 % is recognised for longer than 2 s (at an exhaust gas recirculation valve aperture less than 80 %).
