Motronic M 1.5.4 System- Modification F7: PROGRAMMING
VARIANT CODING
Note:
As there is only one control unit type available for both the X 20 SE engine (closed loop oxygen sensor circuit) and the 20 SE engine (open loop oxygen sensor circuit), and there is also only one control unit type available for both X 22 XE engine (closed loop oxygen sensor circuit) and the 22 XE engine (open loop oxygen sensor circuit) the control units must be reprogrammed on installation or when transferred to a different vehicle. The programming specifies whether the engine is equipped with a closed loop or open loop oxygen sensor circuit.
This programming should be performed with diagnostic tester according to the following instructions:
| Conditions for Checking | Nominal Value |
Affected Terminals: -
Possible Trouble Codes: -
Ignition ON
Engine OFF
Press key F7 in the system main menu, select the desired test using the arrow keys and confirm with YES. Follow the instructions in the diagnostic tester display.
When asked whether the correct control unit is installed, proceed according to the following instructions and/or the latest Technical Information Bulletins.
At present, the Frontera with the X 20 XE or 20 XE engine is equipped with the following control unit:
Opel PartNo 91149787
Alpha Code AB
At present, the Frontera with the X 22 XE or 22 XE engine is equipped with the following control unit:
Opel PartNo 91151854
Alpha Code AD

If the question is answered with YES , diagnostic tester shows the display on the right:
The display shows the engine programmed in the control unit at present, or unknown.
If unknown appears in the display, or a different engine is to be programmed, proceed with NO and select the relevant engine in the following chart:
