Engine Management System Motronic M 1.5.4 (X 20 SE and X 22 XE Petrol Engines)
Function
The engine management system Motronic M 1.5.4 is used on the X 20 SE and the X 22 XE Frontera engines.
The new system features are the adaptive knock control system, the direct ignition system (DIS), and the exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR).
Two relays in a combined housing are used, one each to supply voltage to the fuel pump and the injection system. In addition, an idle speed adjuster is used.
For the first time, version coding can be performed via TECH 1.
The adaptive knock control determines a firing angle correction value specifically for each cylinder depending on:
- Fuel quality (91, 95 or 98 octane petrol).
- Intake air.
- Engine age.
In the direct ignition system, the spark plugs are actuated directly by a DIS ignition module, dispensing with a conventional high voltage distributor.
The EGR system returns a specific amount of exhaust gas to the combustion process, reducing the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx).
The new idle speed adjuster is actuated by the Motronic M 1.5.4 control unit via two leads. It is flanged directly to the throttle body.
