Motronic M 1.5.4 System- Modification F7: PROGRAMMING
INIT. ECU
Note:
If a new control unit is installed in a vehicle, or a control unit from one vehicle is installed in another vehicle, the control unit must be reprogrammed (diagnostic tester function F0:RESET). For this, pay close attention to the following notes, as otherwise the idle speed setting of the engine may be modified to beyond the permitted limits.
In addition, when a control unit is transferred from one vehicle to another, CO adjustment must be carried out (see section 2.1.5.4 CO Adjustment) ( 20 SE, 22 XE only).
In the future, it will be possible to select other characteristic curves in the control unit for firing angle, fuel injection, idle speed and CO adjustment by selecting a certain code during programming (F1:CHANGE), and thus improve the performance characteristics of the vehicle. This is done in a similar fashion as previously with different coloured octane number plug.
More detailed information on this will be published in the relevant Technical Information Bulletins TI.
Before the publication of the above mentioned Technical Information Bulletins TI, this function should not be used. If, however, a workshop should experiment with these functions without requisite information, please note that this will lead to changes in the idle speed adjustment.

Press key F7 in the system main menu, select the desired test using the arrow keys and confirm with YES. Follow the instructions in the diagnostic tester display.
When asked whether the correct control unit is installed, proceed according to the following instructions and/or the latest Technical Information Bulletins.
At present, the Frontera with the X 20 XE or 20 XE engine is equipped with the following control unit:
Opel PartNo: 91149787
Alpha Code AB
The Frontera with the X 22 XE or 22 XE engine is equipped with the following control unit:
Opel PartNo: 91151854
| Alpha Code: AD | EXISTING ECU |
PARTNO/AC

OKAY?
If the question is answered with YES, the following submenu appears:
| INIT. CODING |
F0:RESET
F1:CHANGE
Selection of the menu item F0:RESET programs the control unit with the basic application.
Note that, among other adjustments, this resets the idle speed adjustment to its basic value. Therefore, if the F0:RESET function is used for an already programmed control unit or adjusted engine, perform the following diagnostic tester function:
F6:ADJUSTMENTS
IDLE SPEED
| INIT. CODING |
F0:RESET
By selecting menu item F1:CHANGE, it is possible to select other characteristic curves in the control unit for firing angel, fuel injection, idle speed and CO adjustment by selecting a certain code during programming, and thus improve the performance characteristics of the vehicle. This is done in a similar fashion as previously with different coloured octane number plugs.

SUCCESSFUL!
If the display on the right appears after programming is completed, a fault has occurred during programming.
Execute the following measures consecutively:
Read trouble code; no trouble codes should be stored:
Repeat programming;
Perform diagnostic tester selftest;
Check diagnostic tester cable for damaged insulation and shielding;
| Repeat programming with new control unit | PROGRAMMING ECU |
