Remove

  1. 1. Disconnect battery
  2. 2. Remove air intake hose with mass air flow meter • Detach 2x clamp (1; 2) • Disconnect wiring harness plug of mass air flow meter (3)
  1. 3. Detach wiring harness engine timing (1) from bracket (2) • Detach 5x cable tie
  1. 4. Remove top bracket, wiring harness (2) • Unscrew 2 nuts (1)
  1. 5. Raise vehicle
  2. 6. Remove solenoid valve (2) • Detach 2x vacuum line (1) • Disconnect wiring harness plug (3) • Unscrew 2x bolts (4)

Note. Mark vacuum lines to prevent confusion when assembling

  1. 7. Detach wiring harness engine timing from bracket • Detach 3x cable tie
  2. 8. Remove lower bracket, wiring harness (2) • Detach wiring harness plug from rail pressure sensor (1) • Remove ambient pressure sensor – Disconnect wiring harness plug – Unclip ambient pressure sensor • Unscrew 2x nut (3)
  1. 9. Separate wiring harness plug, metering unit
  2. 10. Remove high pressure line (1) • Loosen 2x union nuts (2) • Remove bracket – Remove bolt
  1. 11. Remove metering unit (1) • Unscrew lower bolt from metering unit (3) • Lower vehicle • Unscrew upper bolt from metering unit (2) •

Important. Ensure that no foreign bodies enter the pump feed.

  1. 12. Replace metering unit seal ring • Coat new seal ring with fresh engine oil • Ensure correct seat

Important. Ensure that no foreign bodies enter the pump feed.

  1. 13. Check 2x fuel feed bores (arrow) for soiling

Install

  1. 14. Install metering unit • Apply fresh engine oil to O-ring of metering unit (1) • Tighten upper bolt of metering unit 10 Nm • Raise vehicle • Tighten lower bolt of metering unit 10 Nm
  1. 15. Install high pressure line • Tighten 2 union nuts • Attach bracket – Tighten bolt – Diameter 6.00 mm - tightening torque 30 Nm – Diameter 6.36 mm - tightening torque 25 Nm

Note. Before installing the high pressure line, measure the diameter of the high pressure line. The torque depends on the diameter:

  1. 16. Connect wiring harness plug of common-rail pressure sensor
  2. 17. Install lower bracket, wiring harness • Tighten 2 nuts
  3. 18. Install ambient pressure sensor • Connect wiring harness plug
  4. 19. Connect wiring harness plug, metering unit
  5. 20. Attach 3x cable tie • Attach wiring harness to lower bracket with 3x cable tie
  6. 21. Install solenoid valve • Tighten 2 bolts • Attach 2x vacuum line to valve

Note. Note allocation of vacuum lines

  1. 22. Lower vehicle
  2. 23. Install top bracket, wiring harness • Tighten 2 nuts
  3. 24. Attach wiring harness to bracket
  4. 25. Install air intake hose. • Attach 2x clamp • Connect wiring harness plug of mass air flow meter
  5. 26. Connect battery

Important. Wear protective goggles

  1. 27. Carry out leak test on high pressure system • Carry out actuator test (fuel leak) • Inspect high pressure system for fuel leak

Note. Engine must be at operating temperature

  1. 28. Program high pressure pump with Tech 2 • Reset pump learned values • Confirm pump replacement with "Yes"
  2. 29. Program volatile memories
