Remove

  1. 1. Open bonnet
  2. 2. Remove air cleaner housing with air intake pipe • Detach air intake pipe (4) from throttle valve module – Release clamp • Disconnect wiring harness plug for intake air temperature sensor (3) – Unclip wiring harness • Unclip 2x fuel degassing pipes (1) • Unscrew bolt (2)
  1. 3. Detach front toothed belt cover (top) (1) • Unscrew 2x bolt (2) • Release upper catch (3) • Pull front toothed belt cover (top) upwards by pulling gently on the lug (arrow)
  1. 4. Remove DIS-ignition module • Remove cover of DIS-ignition module in the direction of the arrow • Unscrew 2x bolt • Remove from spark plugs using KM-6009 (1)

Note. Note arrow on cover

  1. 5. Remove spark plugs with KM-6363
  2. 6. Detach coolant expansion tank closure cap
  3. 7. Remove oil dipstick
  4. 8. Raise vehicle
  5. 9. Detach lower engine compartment cover / spray guard
  6. 10. Adjust crankshaft • Move crankshaft in direction of engine rotation to the "1st cylinder TDC position" (mark 1)
  1. 11. Lower vehicle
  2. 12. Apply marks to help with positioning • Apply 3 marks on one of the camshaft sprockets to help with positioning – Each one offset by 90° to the existing marks

Note. In this position, the marks (1) on the camshaft sprockets must be aligned

Inspect

  1. 13. Calibrate pressure loss tester • Connect to compressed air system

Note. Follow manufacturer's instructions

  1. 14. Attach pressure loss tester • Engage 1st gear and apply the parking brake • Screw connecting piece into spark plug thread of cylinder no.1 • Apply compressed air to cylinder no. 1

Note. Wheels must be in contact with the ground

  1. 15. Pressure Loss, Check • Take pressure loss reading – The maximum permissible pressure differential between cylinders is approx. 10% – Maximum pressure loss of a cylinder is 25% • Take note of any visible escape of compressed air – Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, crankcase • Take not of any bubble formation in the coolant compensation tank
  2. 16. Adjust crankshaft • Move the crankshaft 180 ° in the direction of engine rotation (corresponds to 90 ° at the camshaft sprocket) to "cylinder 3 ignition TDC" (applied mark)
  3. 17. Transfer pressure loss tester • Screw connecting piece into spark plug thread of cylinder no.3 • Apply compressed air to cylinder no. 3
  5. 19. Adjust crankshaft • Move the crankshaft 180° in the direction of engine rotation (corresponds to 90 ° at the camshaft sprocket) to "cylinder 4 ignition TDC" (applied mark)
  6. 20. Transfer pressure loss tester • Screw connecting piece into spark plug thread of cylinder no.4 • Apply compressed air to cylinder no. 4
  8. 22. Adjust crankshaft • Move the crankshaft 180° in the direction of engine rotation (corresponds to 90 ° at the camshaft sprocket) to "cylinder 2 ignition TDC" (applied mark)
  9. 23. Transfer pressure loss tester • Screw connecting piece into spark plug thread of cylinder no.2 • Apply compressed air to cylinder no. 2

Install
