Note:

The Hall sensor on the high tension distributor helps recognition of cylinders. It informs the control unit at which crankshaft revolution cylinder "1" ignites. The control unit needs this information to inject the fuel at the correct time.

The Hall sensor is only included in the self-diagnosis on vehicles as of Model Year '89.

If there is a failure in the Hall sensor, the control unit picks a random point in time for injection valve actuation.

Effects from failure of Hall sensor:

· On open loop systems, worse exhaust emissions

· Cold start problems

Trouble-shooting: Nominal Value: Cause of Fault:

Check voltage supply · Lead interruption between

· Connect multimeter to Ter. 3 (brgr) control unit Ter. 31 (voltage supply)

of Hall sensor and Hall sensor Ter. 3

and measure against ground

(adapter cable from KM-609) · Control unit defective

· Ignition ON > 10 V

· Ignition OFF

Check ground

· Connect multimeter between 0 Ohm · Lead interruption between

control unit Ter. 8 and control unit Ter. 8 and

Hall sensor Ter. 2 Hall sensor Ter. 2 (signal lead)

Check Hall sensor:

· Push back rubber grommet

on 3 pin plug from Hall sensor

and install plug

Connect measuring tips of

Multimeter MKM-587-A to signal

lead (Ter. 2, middle contact)

and ground (Ter. 1)

· Ignition ON

Push vehicle with gear Display must change
