Inspect

  1. 1. Only use anti-freeze (red) approved by Opel and ensure a concentration of 50% water and 50% anti-freeze. The purpose of anti-freeze is not only to protect the entire cooling system against freezing but also to protect all coolant-affected parts against corrosion and lime deposit. For this reason, anti-freeze must be used even in tropical regions.
  2. 2. The water quality also plays an important role in addition to the mix ratio. Water of drinkable quality usually meets these requirements. The quality of purified sea water is inadequate!
  3. 3. Damage may also be caused to the engine if unauthorised anti-freeze agent is used!
  4. 4. If radiator, cylinder head or cylinder head gasket have been replaced the old coolant must not be re-used.

Important. Vehicles with air conditioning: switch air conditioning off and set to ECO mode with ECC

  1. 5. Open cooling system Warning: Cooling system is under pressure • Unscrew coolant expansion tank cover
  2. 6. Open vent screw • Open vent screw (2) using screwdriver (1)
  1. 7. Top up the coolant to the lower edge of the overflow tube (arrow) on the coolant expansion tank
  1. 8. Close vent screw when coolant flows out of the vent screw
  2. 9. Seal off cooling system • Screw in coolant expansion tank cover
  3. 10. Start engine and allow to warm up • Allow engine to warm up at idling speed of up to 2500 rpm until first radiator fan setting switches on Immediately after the engine starts, briefly depress accelerator 3 times (fuel pulse) -- The engine speed created by the fuel pulse should not be greater than 2500 rpm.

Note. After removing the heating element, the following additional work is to be performed:

  1. 11. Vent cooling system • Briefly pump the accelerator (fuel pulse) 3 times -- The engine speed created by the fuel pulse should not be greater than 2500 rpm

Note. After removing the heating element, let engine run for 2 minutes at 2000 to 2500 rmp. This ensures complete venting of the cooling system.

  1. 12. Switch engine off and allow to cool
  2. 13. Check coolant level and correct the coolant to "COLD" mark (arrow) if necessary

Note. After a test drive, check the coolant level again and top up coolant to "COLD" mark if necessary
