Remove
- 1. Open bonnet
- 2. Remove right engine splash guard
- 3. Lower vehicle by its full height
- 4. Remove front toothed belt cover (top)
- 5. Remove spark plugs
- 6. Detach engine management wiring harness from cylinder head cover • Unclip 2x from bracket
- 7. Detach coolant expansion tank closure cap
- 8. Remove oil dipstick
- 9. Adjust crankshaft • Turn crankshaft in direction of engine rotation to "Cylinder no.1 TDC" ("1. Zylinder Zünd-OT") (Marking 1)
- 10. Apply guidance marks • Apply 3x auxiliary markings (3) to one of the camshaft sprockets and to the rear toothed belt cover (1) – each offset by 90° to the existing marking (2)
Inspect
- 11. Calibrate pressure loss tester • Connect to compressed air system
Note. Follow manufacturer's instructions
- 12. Attach pressure loss tester • Engage 1st gear and apply parking brake • Screw connector into spark plug thread of cylinder 1 • Apply compressed air to cylinder 1
Note. Wheels must be in contact with the ground
- 13. Test pressure loss • Take pressure loss reading – The maximum permissible pressure differential between cylinders is approx. 10% – Maximum pressure loss of a cylinder is 25% • Take note of any visible escape of compressed air – Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, crankcase • Take not of any bubble formation in the coolant compensation tank
- 14. Perform compression test in a similar manner for cylinders 3, 4 and 2
Install
- 15. Detach pressure loss tester • Unscrew connector from spark plug thread
- 16. Put vehicle in neutral
- 17. Insert oil dipstick
- 18. Attach coolant expansion tank closure cap
- 19. Install spark plugs
- 20. Attach engine management wiring harness to cylinder head cover • Clip 2x in bracket
- 21. Install front toothed belt cover (top)
- 22. Raise vehicle by its full height
- 23. Install right engine splash guard
- 24. Lower vehicle by its full height
- 25. Close bonnet
