OPEL/VAUXHALL SERVICE PLAN
This brochure contains the Service information for Opel/Vauxhall Monterey vehicles first registered as of Model Year 1998 1/2 and FronteraB and Campo/Brava vehicles as of Model Year 1999. It replaces the brochure KTA2107. The previous brochures with all Service information for vehicles up to these Model Years remain applicable.
The Service operations for the Arena and Movano and all passenger cars are fully detailed in the separate publications for these vehicles and are not included in this brochure.
The Opel/Vauxhall Service Plan is applicable worldwide. Features specific to individual countries, such as deviating legal requirements or checks, cannot be covered in detail and are not included in this brochure. Where appropriate, separate information should be observed.
This brochure is intended for worldwide distribution. Therefore, engines and vehicles are listed which are not available in all countries.
Each Service operation (inspection) must be performed using the relevant Service Plan/Service Check List. The fully completed check list must always be handed to the customer together with the invoice. The check list used must correspond with the check list in the Service Booklet.
This brochure is divided into sections that contain the following information.
Guide to Schedules
Itemises all due operations. The operation description and the relevant technical data are also referenced for easy location.
Engine Oil Change
Details oil and filter change operations for Campo/Brava, FronteraB and Monterey, and valve clearance checks for 4JX1, 4JG2T and 4JA1T engines.
Opel Service Operations
Details the Service operations contained in the Service Schedules.
Technical Data
All relevant service data, e.g. filling quantities, adjustment values and tyre pressures are fully summarised in this section of the brochure.
Time Allowances
Contains the time allowances for the Service Schedules. In individual cases, the specified time allowances may be either higher or lower than the actual value. These are the recommended values. The time allowance for vehicle setup "Vehicle from Parking Place to Workplace and Back" = .2 hrs - is included in the specified values and not given separately. The time allowances do not include a specification for test drives. The time expenditure for test drives - as for test drives after repair operations - is covered by the regular workshop overhead rate.
The time allowances are listed separately for Normal Mileage Service Schedule A and High Mileage Service Schedule B.
As of Model Year '99, pneumatic wrenches shall be used for determining time allowances for detaching wheel nuts/bolts.
In addition, within Additional Operations Service Schedule C, there are operations which are performed irregularly, e.g. replace brake and clutch fluid. The time allowances for the additional operations are not included in the Service and must be invoiced separately. We recommend that these operations be performed during the Service as the time allowances are then considerably lower than when the operations are performed separately. This applies especially to the exhaust emissions test, which is no longer included in the regular inspection.
Check List
A sample check list is included at the end of the brochure. A copy of the completed check list must be given to the customer after each Service to avoid confusion about work that has been performed.
If necessary, any matters that come to the technician's attention during the Service can be noted on the check list.
The most important features of the Opel/Vauxhall Service Plan are:
Engine Oil and Filter Change
Monterey DTI 16V (4JX1) and Campo/Brava engines only:
Due every 7 500 km/5 000 miles or 1 year, whichever occurs first.
The Schedules have the following designations:
Normal Mileage Service Schedule A
For vehicles which cover less than 30 000 km/20 000 miles in a year (normal mileage):
Interim Service: every 15 000 km/10 000 miles or 1 year, whichever occurs first.
Main Service: every 2 years, however earlier if 30 000 km/20 000 miles have been covered.
High Mileage Service Schedule B
For vehicles which cover more than 30 000 km/20 000 miles a year (high mileage):
Interim Service: every 15 000 km/10 000 miles.
Main Service: every 30 000 km/20 000 miles.
Additional Operations Service Schedule C
For scheduled additional operations and vehicles driven under severe operating conditions. Service Schedule C is performed in conjunction with either the Normal or High Mileage Service Schedules.
The following alterations and new features are especially noteworthy:
There is a tabular overview (Technical Data 4.1) of all fluids and lubricants applications and the corresponding fluids/lubricants used in the Service Plan.
The separate check lists for Service Schedules A, B and C are now combined into one check list. Normal Mileage Service Schedule A and High Mileage Service Schedule B have each been subdivided into their respective interim and main services.
For FronteraB Model Year 2001 two engines are introduced. The X22SE and X22DTH engines are replaced by the Y22SE and Y22DTH engines. The Y22DTH engine oil and filter change is every 30 000 km/20 000 miles or 1 year, whichever occurs first.
Definition of terms
Severe operating conditions includes frequent cold starts, carrying of heavy loads, trailer operation, frequent driving in stop and go traffic, use as a taxi, ambulance, hire car, etc., and frequent shortdistance driving.
Extreme, external environmental influences includes, areas with a high degree of air pollution (drift sand), a high pollutant burden, large temperature variations, high humidity, etc.
If the service reveals that the vehicle is operated under severe operating conditions or is subjected to extreme external environmental influences, the customer's attention must be drawn to the necessity for more frequent servicing.
Additional engine oil and oil filter changes
Frequent city and shortdistance driving more than triples the load on the engine oil and engine wear compared with intercity and motorway driving. As a consequence, the performance of the engine oil deteriorates and requires more frequent changing when used for shortdistance driving.
An additional engine oil and filter change is recommended for "normal mileage" with frequent cold starts or mainly city or shortdistance driving. This must be confirmed by stamping the specific fields in the Service Booklet.
Exhaust emissions test (AU)
The exhaust emissions test is no longer included in the Service Plan. However, it can be performed during the Service; see Operation 3.33.
