Ignition Module, Y 22 Xe

As with the X 20 XEV engine in the Astra–G, the Y 22 XE engine in the Omega–B is equipped with an ignition module (1) (single spark ignition coil with integral spark plug connectors).

An integrated wiring trough as well as a central plug connection increase the vibration resistance and thus reduce system failures.

In the ignition module, an ignition coil and an ignition output stage are allocated to each cylinder which are actuated by the engine control unit according to the ignition sequence.

The allocation of the ignition sparks to the individual cylinders is determined via the camshaft or crankshaft signal.

The ignition module with the integral spark plug connectors is located directly above the spark plugs.

Advantages of the ignition module are:

  • Compact design
  • No distribution losses
  • Fewer components
  • Reduction of electromagnetic interference
