How to Replace the Piston Opel Omega B

Note. Pushing out of the piston pin is not permitted. If the piston, the piston pin or the con-rod defective, all above-mentioned parts must be replaced.

Remove

Remove piston with con-rod (1) – see operation "Piston with Con-rod, Remove and Install".

Install

Coat con-rod eye and upper part of con-rod stem with thermocolour pencil. When the required installation temperature is attained the green colour changes to black. The coloured line (arrow) must not discolour over the entire length, but only up to the start of the con-rod stem. Heat new con-rod at upper con-rod eye with hot plate.

Assembly temperature: 280 °C/536 °F to max. 320 °C/608 °F.

Caution

Installation position: beads (arrows) on con-rods point towards flattening (arrow) on piston pin boss.

Note. Firmly seated piston pin cannot be pressed further. Perform assembly quickly.

Assemble

Con-rod (1), piston pin, piston (2).

Slide new piston pin to stop in piston with guide drift.

Install

Install piston with con-rod – see operation "Piston with Con-rod, Remove and Install".
