How to Adjust the Timing Opel Omega B

DOHC Petrol Engine 2 illustrations ~222 words

Note. Adjustment is carried out with the engine cold – at room temperature.

Remove

Remove cylinder head cover – see operation "Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install".

Remove torsional vibration damper (1) – counterhold on fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear.

Loosen fastening bolt of toothed belt tension roller and turn at adjuster eccentric in direction of arrow (clockwise) until pointer (2) is just in front of the left stop.

Mark direction of travel of toothed belt and remove toothed belt from camshaft sprockets.

Caution

Proceed carefully when turning the camshaft. Improper adjustment leads to contact and thus to damage to components, e.g. valves on piston.

Adjust

At hex of camshaft, put camshaft sprockets (short path) on mark. Lug (2) on the guide bearings aligns with the notches (1) on the camshaft sprockets. Fit camshaft sprockets with KM-853 (4). Note valve timing mark – marks (3) must be flush with one another.

Install

Install toothed belt – ensure that tensioned side (I) is taut. Adjust toothed belt tension – see operation "Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust". Install torsional vibration damper on toothed belt drive gear and counterhold at fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. Install cylinder head cover – see operation "Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install".
