Checking Engine for Leaks Opel Meriva A

DOHC Diesel Engine 1 illustration ~137 words

Note. Engine warmed up (oil temperature >= 80° C).

Inspect

  1. 1. With the engine running, place the tester on the coolant compensation tank.
  2. 2. Actuating the rubber bellows siphons air from the coolant compensation tank. Ensure that no coolant is drawn in. If the blue fluid in the upper chamber of the tester turns yellow, the cylinder head gasket or the cylinder head is leaking.
  3. 3. Method: The transparent cylinder of the tester contains a blue reactive fluid that turns yellow if air is drawn in that contains the slightest traces of carbon monoxide. When fresh air is drawn in the test fluid is regenerated, i.e. it turns blue again.
  4. 4. The fluid can be checked by exposing it to exhaust emissions from the exhaust pipe. The test fluid should then turn yellow.
