Remove
- 1. Open bonnet
- 2. Disconnect battery • Detach ground cable
Important. In vehicles with ESP - the steering angle sensor loses its basic settings every time the battery is disconnected and has to be recalibrated.
- 3. Remove oil filter insert • Place collecting basin underneath • Unscrew cap (1) of oil filter housing
- 4. Detach oil dipstick guide tube • Unscrew upper bolt • Unclip vacuum hose
- 5. Raise vehicle
- 6. Remove ribbed V-belt cover • Unscrew 3x bolt (1) • Remove clip (arrow)
- 7. Drain engine oil • Place collecting basin underneath • Remove drain bolt
- 8. Install drain bolt • Renew seal ring • Tighten bolt – Tightening torque 78,4 Nm
- 9. Remove front exhaust pipe • Unscrew 2x nut
Important. When removing the centre muffler, a catalytic converter, an exhaust manifold, or an exhaust manifold with catalytic converter, secure that portion of the exhaust system remaining on the vehicle against uncontrolled suspension. The exhaust system piece with the flex pipe inside can be secured for this purpose using suitable means, such as a wire on the vehicle underbody. Bends in the flex pipe with an angle as little as 5 – 10 degrees from the intended installation position may result in damage with subsequent total failure of the flex pipe.
- 10. Attach exhaust system • Unhook 2x damper rings • secure with cable ties
- 11. Remove oil dipstick guide tube • Unscrew 2x bolt
- 12. Remove oil pan lower section • Unscrew 15x bolts • Use KM-J-37228
- 13. Remove oil pan upper section • Unscrew 14x bolts • Unscrew 3x bolt (1) • Unscrew 2x nut • Use KM-J-37228
Note. Note dissimilar bolt lengths
- 14. Remove oil dipstick guide tube
- 15. Remove oil pump intake pipe (2) and oil baffle plate (1)
- 16. Note con-rod bearing cap order (3)
- 17. Detach con-rod bearing cap from con-rod
- 18. Press con-rod bearing shells out of con-rod and con-rod bearing cap
- 19. Clean con-rod bearing journal and con-rod bearing cap
- 20. Check con-rod bearing clearance
Install
- 21. Insert new con-rod bearing shells with engine oil in con-rod and con-rod bearing cap
- 22. Attach con-rod bearing cap to con-rod with new fastening screws 24,5 Nm + 100° + 15° • Note marking and installation position of con-rod bearing cap
- 23. Install oil pump intake pipe and oil baffle plate 18,6 Nm
- 24. Clean sealing surfaces • Cylinder block, oil pan upper part, oil pan lower part
- 25. Attach upper part of oil pan • Apply silicone sealing compound (grey) • Tighten 14x bolts – Tightening torque 9,8 Nm • Tighten 2 nuts – Tightening torque 9,8 Nm • 3x M10 bolts – Tightening torque 40 Nm
Important. You have 10 minutes to apply the silicone sealing compound (grey), install the oil pan lower section and perform the torque test.
