How to Replace the Valve Stem Seals Opel Meriva A

Warning: When working on the Common Rail System, please wait for one minute after switching the engine off. The system relieves the pressure automatically.

Important: When working with fuel systems, cleanliness must be ensured at all times since even the smallest dirt particles can lead to disruptions of engine operation or in the fuel system. Plug open fuel fittings with suitable sealing plugs. 1) Sealing plugs are intended for single use only.

Remove

1. 1. Remove camshaft housing
2. 2. Remove 16x roller cam followers (1) with valve lash adjusters (2)

Note. Set aside in the order removed

3. 3. 16x Valve Lash Adjusters, Replace • Unclip valve lash adjusters (2) from the roller cam followers in the direction of the arrow (1)

Note. Note centring link on retaining spring.

4. 4. Remove 2x camshaft housing centring pin (1)

5. 5. Insert MKM-6086 • Adjust 2x support MKM-6086-6 (1) – Adjust support heads externally at the side in respect of the support bases – Tighten 2 bolts • Push articulation point MKM-6086-8 (2) on assembly shaft MKM-6086-4 (3) – Push 2x Support MKM-6086-6 on Assembly Shaft MKM-6086-4 • Attach both supports to cylinder head with assembly shaft – Screw in 4 bolts

6. 6. Attach EN-46782 (3) in conjunction with EN-46783 (2) and MKM-6086-17 (1) to cylinder no.1 • Screw in stud bolt (5) • Insert EN-46782 with gasket and injector(4), cylinder 2 – Tighten nut (6) 20 Nm

7. 7. Attach lever arm • Attach Lever Arm MKM-6086-7 (3) in conjunction with Adapter MKM-6086-12 (2) and Dismantling Head MKM-6086-11 (4) to Articulation Point MKM-6086-8 (1)

Important. Ensure application of compressed air

8. 8. Remove 2x intake valve spring, cylinder 1 • Carefully push valve spring down using lever arm MKM-6086-7 • Remove 2x valve cotter (arrow) • Remove valve head and valve springs

Important. Dismantling head must be positioned vertically over the valve stem

9. 9. Replace 2x valve stem seal • Remove with KM-840 (1) • Place new valve stem seal (3) on to valve stem (2) • Drive in as far as stop with EN-46779 (4)

Note. Coat new valve stem seals with oil

10. 10. Complete Assembly Head MKM-6086-100-1 • Put together assembly head consisting of mount (1), fixing sleeve (2), Thrust Piece MKM-6086-13 (3), spring (4), screw connection (5) and Lever Mount MKM-6086-12 (6)

Note. Note manufacturer's provisions!

11. 11. Install 2x intake valve spring in cylinder 1 • Insert valve springs and valve heads • Insert valve cotters in Assembly Head MKM-6086-100-1 (1) – Push clamping sleeve (2) towards the lever arm holder – Insert valve cotters – Push clamping sleeve in direction of valve (arrow) • Attach assembly head to lever arm

Important. Insert valve cotters with tapered end towards valve.

Important. Ensure application of compressed air

12. 12. Install valve cotters • Carefully push valve springs downwards (arrow) • Check seating of valve cotters (2)

Important. Assembly head (1) must stand vertically above valve stem. Valve cotters (2) must engage audibly.

Important. Do not make 2nd attempt without checking that both valve cotters are seated in the assembly head.

13. 13. Attach Dismantling Head MKM-6086-11 to Adapter MKM-6086-12
14. 14. Attach adapter (1) to bore (2)

15. 15. Remove 2x valve spring, exhaust valve of cylinder 1
16. 16. Replace valve stem seal
17. 17. Attach Assembly Head MKM-6086-100-1 to Adapter MKM-6086-12
18. 18. Install 2x valve spring, exhaust valve of cylinder 1 • Attach assembly head
19. 19. Attach EN-46783 to cylinder 2 • Interrupt compressed air feed • Remove EN-46782 with the injector of cylinder 2 – Unscrew nut • Install EN-46782 in no.2 cylinder – Insert with injector of cylinder 1 – Tighten nut 20 Nm • Apply compressed air to cylinder no. 2
20. 20. Remove 2x valve spring, exhaust valve of cylinder 1 • Attach dismantling head
21. 21. Replace valve stem seal
22. 22. Install 2x valve spring, exhaust valve of cylinder 1 • Attach assembly head
23. 23. Transfer adapter
24. 24. Remove 2x valve spring, intake valve of cylinder 2 • Attach dismantling head
25. 25. Replace valve stem seal
26. 26. Install 2x valve spring, intake valve of cylinder 2 • Attach assembly head
27. 27. Attach EN-46783 to cylinder 3 • Interrupt compressed air feed • Remove EN-46782 with the injector of cylinder 1 – Unscrew nut – Unscrew stud bolt • Screw in stud bolt • Install EN-46782 with seal in cylinder 3 – Insert in conjunction with injector of cylinder 4 – Tighten nut 20 Nm • Apply compressed air to cylinder no. 3

Important. Blind hole thread, note bolt length

28. 28. Remove 2x valve spring, intake valve of cylinder 3 • Attach dismantling head
29. 29. Replace valve stem seal
30. 30. Install 2x valve spring, intake valve of cylinder 3 • Attach assembly head
31. 31. Transfer adapter
32. 32. Remove 2x valve spring, exhaust valve of cylinder 3 • Attach dismantling head
33. 33. Replace valve stem seal
34. 34. Install 2x valve spring, exhaust valve of cylinder 3 • Attach assembly head
35. 35. Attach EN-46783 to cylinder 4 • Interrupt compressed air feed • Remove EN-46782 with the injector of cylinder 4 – Unscrew nut • Install EN-46782 in no.4 cylinder – Insert with injector of cylinder 3 – Tighten nut 20 Nm • Apply compressed air to cylinder no. 4
36. 36. Remove 2x valve spring, exhaust valve of cylinder 4 • Attach dismantling head
37. 37. Replace valve stem seal
38. 38. Install 2x valve spring, exhaust valve of cylinder 4 • Attach assembly head
39. 39. Transfer adapter
40. 40. Remove 2x valve spring, intake valve of cylinder 4 • Attach dismantling head
41. 41. Replace valve stem seal
42. 42. Install 2x valve spring, intake valve of cylinder 4 • Attach assembly head
43. 43. Remove EN-46783 from cylinder 4 • Interrupt compressed air feed • Remove EN-46782 with the injector of cylinder 3 – Unscrew nut • Unscrew stud bolt
44. 44. Detach MKM-6086 • Unscrew 4x bolt

Install

45. 45. Insert 2x centring pin in camshaft housing
46. 46. Clean sealing surface
47. 47. Clip valve lash adjusters to roller cam followers
48. 48. Insert 16x roller cam followers with valve lash adjusters

Note. Follow order in which they were removed. Dip roller cam followers and hydraulic valve lifters in engine oil before insertion.

49. 49. Install camshaft housing
