Timing, Check the Timings Are Adjusted at 1st or at 4th Cylinder Ign. TDC. the TDC Reference Points of the Timing Chain Are Identified by Coloured Chain Links. These Must Coincide with the Marks on the Respective Sprockets.
It is no longer possible to check the timings using the chain links marked in colours after the engine has been turned over once completely or after running the engine - the marks are only used for re-positioning the timing chains.
Remove cylinder head cover - see operation "Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install".
Attach KM-6148 to cylinder head, as shown in illustration J 1060.
At fastening bolt of torsional vibration damper, turn crankshaft slowly and smoothly in direction of engine rotation to marks (1).
It must now be possible to secure the camshaft sprockets by sliding forwards positioning pin of KM-6148.
In this position, the TDC mark for the torsional vibration damper must be aligned with the mark on the timing case cover - engine is at 1st or 4th cylinder TDC.
Remove KM-6148 from cylinder head.
Install cylinder head cover - see operation "Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install".
- Mark of camshaft timing chain to camshaft sprocket of exhaust camshaft (silver colour),
- Mark of camshaft timing chain to camshaft sprocket of intake camshaft (copper colour),
- Position of cams of 4th cylinder,
- Mark of balancer shaft timing chain to drive gear of balancer shaft on intake side (copper colour),
- Marks of timing chains to the two drive gears on the crankshaft (silver colour),
- Mark of balancer shaft timing chain to drive gear of balancer shaft on intake side (silver colour).
