TEST NTC-27A: CHECKING RADIATOR FAN OPERATION
Note. Perform TEST NTC-1A: NO TROUBLE CODES (NTC) TESTS before proceeding.
- Using scan tool, actuate low speed radiator fan relay. Observe radiator fan. If radiator fan actuated, go to step 6 . If radiator fan did not actuate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect radiator fan motor connector. Turn ignition on. Using a 12-volt test light, check voltage on fused B+ circuit at low speed radiator fan relay connector. See «LOW SPEED RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S31420376922000030800000) table. If test light is brightly illuminated, go to next step. If test light is not brightly illuminated, repair open fused B+ circuit. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) .
- Using a jumper wire, connect fused B+ circuit and low speed radiator fan relay output circuit at low speed radiator fan relay connector. See «LOW SPEED RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S31420376922000030800000) table. Observe radiator fan. If radiator fan does not actuate, go to next step. If radiator fan actuated, replace low speed radiator fan relay. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) .
- Disconnect radiator fan motor connector. Using a 12-volt test light, check low speed radiator fan relay output circuit at radiator fan motor connector (harness side). See «RADIATOR FAN MOTOR CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S04037811412000030800000) table. If test light is brightly illuminated, go to next step. If test light is not brightly illuminated, repair open low speed radiator fan relay output circuit. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) .
- Using a DVOM, check resistance of both ground circuits between radiator fan motor connector (harness side) and ground. See «RADIATOR FAN MOTOR CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S04037811412000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms on both ground circuits, replace radiator fan motor. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) . If resistance is 5 ohms or more on both ground circuits, repair open ground circuit. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) .
- Using scan tool, actuate high speed radiator fan relay. Observe radiator fan. If radiator fan actuated, radiator fan is operating properly. Test is complete. If radiator fan did not actuate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect high speed radiator fan relay. Using a 12-volt test light, check voltage on fused B+ circuit at high speed radiator fan relay connector. See «HIGH SPEED RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S06477403352000030800000) table. If test light is brightly illuminated, go to next step. If test light is not brightly illuminated, repair open fused B+ circuit. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) .
- Using a jumper wire, connect fused B+ circuit and high speed radiator fan relay output circuit at high speed radiator fan relay connector. See «HIGH SPEED RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S06477403352000030800000) table. Observe radiator fan. If radiator fan does not actuate, go to next step. If radiator fan actuated, replace high speed radiator fan relay. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) .
- Disconnect radiator fan motor connector. Using a 12-volt test light, check high speed radiator fan relay output circuit at radiator fan motor connector (harness side). See «RADIATOR FAN MOTOR CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S04037811412000030800000) table. If test light is brightly illuminated, go to next step. If test light is not brightly illuminated, repair open high speed radiator fan relay output circuit. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) .
- Using a DVOM, check resistance of both ground circuits between radiator fan motor connector (harness side) and ground. See «RADIATOR FAN MOTOR CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S04037811412000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms on both ground circuits, replace radiator fan motor. Perform «TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S22124556262000030800000) . If resistance is 5 ohms or more on both ground circuits, repair open ground circuit. TEST SC-1A: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION
Note. Using scan tool, check for any codes. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Use this test only when no speed control DTCs are present.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe speed control switch inputs. While observing scan tool, press speed control ON/OFF switch several times. If scan tool displayed speed control ON/OFF switch switching on and off, go to next step. If scan tool did not display speed control ON/OFF switch switching on and off, perform «TEST SC-2A: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION»(ref-576-S30823208632000030800000) .
- Turn speed control ON/OFF switch to on. While observing scan tool display, press SET switch several times. If scan tool displayed switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, go to next step. If scan tool did not display switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, replace SET switch. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- While observing scan tool display, press RESUME/ACCEL switch several times. If scan tool displayed switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, go to next step. If scan tool did not display switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, perform «TEST SC-3A: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL RESUME/ACCEL SWITCH»(ref-576-S23018184692000030800000) .
- While observing scan tool display, press CANCEL switch several times. If scan tool displayed switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, go to next step. If scan tool did not display switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, replace CANCEL switch. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- While observing scan tool display, press COAST switch several times. If scan tool displayed switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, go to next step. If scan tool did not display switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, replace COAST switch. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- While observing scan tool display, press brake pedal several times. If scan tool displayed brake switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, perform «TEST SC-1B: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION»(ref-576-S19048545762000030800000) . If scan tool did not display brake switch status changing from PRESSED to RELEASED, perform «TEST SC-4A: CHECKING BRAKE SWITCH SENSE»(ref-576-S27920482322000030800000) .
TEST SC-1B: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION
Note. Perform TEST SC-1A: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION before proceeding.
- While observing scan tool display, move gear selector to drive. If scan tool displayed switch status D/R, go to next step. If scan tool did not display switch status D/R, perform «DTC P1899-A: PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH STUCK IN PARK OR IN GEAR»(ref-576-S14133423542000030800000) .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control servo connector. Inspect connector for damaged or pushed out terminals. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is not okay, repair as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- Using a DVOM, check resistance of ground circuit between speed control servo connector and ground. See «SPEED CONTROL SERVO CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S13256160102000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open ground circuit. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- Reconnect speed control servo connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate speed control vent solenoid. Using a 12-volt test light, backprobe between speed control brake switch output switch output circuit and ground. See «SPEED CONTROL SERVO CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S13256160102000030800000) table. If test light is brightly illuminated, go to next step. If test light is not brightly illuminated, perform «TEST SC-4A: CHECKING BRAKE SWITCH SENSE»(ref-576-S27920482322000030800000) .
- Start engine. Allow engine to idle for one minute. Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate speed control servo solenoids. Observe throttle assembly. If throttle opens and closes, perform «TEST SC-5A: CHECKING BRAKE SWITCH SENSE»(ref-576-S20159436052000030800000) . If throttle does not open and close, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect vacuum supply to speed control servo. Connect a vacuum gauge to disconnected hose. Start engine. Observe vacuum gauge. If vacuum gauge reads manifold vacuum, perform «TEST SC-1C: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION»(ref-576-S24293787232000030800000) . If vacuum gauge does not read manifold vacuum, repair leak or restriction in vacuum supply. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .

TEST SC-1C: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION
Note. Perform TEST CS-1A: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION before proceeding.
- Turn ignition off. Observe vacuum gauge for 10 seconds. If vacuum holds for at least 10 seconds, go to next step. If vacuum does not hold for at least 10 seconds, replace vacuum check valve. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- Inspect throttle cable. If throttle cable is disconnected or damaged, repair as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) . If throttle cable is not disconnected or damaged, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control servo connector. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using a DVOM, check resistance of speed control vacuum solenoid control circuit between speed control servo connector and PCM connector terminal No. 56. See «SPEED CONTROL SERVO CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S20408845452000030800000) table and «PCM CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S29239493372000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open speed control vacuum solenoid control circuit. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- Using a DVOM, check resistance of speed control vent solenoid control circuit between speed control servo connector and PCM connector terminal No. 80. See «SPEED CONTROL SERVO CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S20408845452000030800000) table and «PCM CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S29239493372000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace speed control servo. See «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open speed control vent solenoid control circuit. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .

TEST SC-2A: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION
Note. Perform TEST CS-1A: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION before proceeding.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check speed control switch voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to step 6 .
- Disconnect speed control ON/OFF/SET switch. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace speed control ON/OFF/SET switch. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) . If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
- Disconnect speed control RESUME/ACCEL switch. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace speed control RESUME/ACCEL switch. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) . If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
- Disconnect clockspring 5-pin connector. Observe voltage on scan tool. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace clockspring. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) . If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using a DVOM, check resistance of speed control switch signal circuit between speed control ON/OFF/SET switch connector and ground. See «SPEED CONTROL ON/OFF/SET SWITCH CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S14594123002000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5,100 ohms, repair short to ground on speed control switch signal circuit. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) . If resistance is 5,100 ohms or more, replace PCM. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- Disconnect speed control ON/OFF switch connector. Using a DVOM, check voltage of speed control switch signal circuit between speed control ON/OFF/SET switch connector and chassis ground. If voltage is 6 volts or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 6 volts, repair short to voltage on speed control switch signal circuit. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- If voltage is 4 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 4 volts, repair open or high resistance in speed control switch signal circuit. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .
- Connect a jumper wire between speed control switch signal circuit and ground at speed control ON/OFF/SET switch connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read speed control ON/OFF/SET switch voltage. If voltage is less than one volt, replace speed control ON/OFF/SET switch. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) . If voltage is one volt or more, replace PCM. Perform «TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S16464623272000030800000) .

TEST NS-7A: CHECKING IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR OPERATION
Note. Perform TEST NS-SEL: NO START SELECTION MENU before proceeding.
- Hold throttle 1/4 open and attempt to start engine. If engine started and stayed running, go to next step. If engine did not start and stay running, go to «TEST NS-8A: REPAIRING A START & STALL CONDITION»(ref-576-S24847229602000030800000) .
- Release throttle and turn ignition off. Inspect throttle body for a coking condition. If throttle body does not have a coking condition, go to next step. If throttle body has a coking condition, clean throttle body as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-1A: NO START VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S13783779832000030800000) .
- Start engine. Using scan tool, actuate Idle Air Control (IAC) wiggle test. If engine speed responded correctly, test is complete. Perform «TEST VER-1A: NO START VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S13783779832000030800000) . If engine speed did not respond correctly, perform «DTC P0505-A: IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR CIRCUITS»(ref-576-S22657118322000030800000) .
