DTC P1288-A: SHORT RUNNER VALVE CIRCUIT Chrysler LHS II

Note. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.

  1. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP displayed is not equal to zero, go to next step. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP displayed is equal to zero, go to step 6 .
  2. Condition to set trouble code is not present at this time. SHORT RUNNER VALVE CIRCUIT DTC sets if Short Runner Valve (SRV) circuit is not in the expected state when requested to operate by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Possible causes are: open or shorted control circuit, open fused ASD relay output circuit, open or shorted solenoid control coil, PCM failure, faulty connections or wiring. Go to next step.
  3. Inspect all related wiring, connectors and hoses and repair as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000) . If no problems were found with wiring, connectors and hoses, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, actuate Short Runner Valve (SRV) solenoid. While listening to SRV solenoid, wiggle wiring harness from SRV solenoid to PCM connector. If SRV solenoid stopped actuating when wiggling wiring harness, repair wiring harness as necessary where wiggling caused problem to appear. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000) . If SRV solenoid did not stop clicking when wiggling wiring harness, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, read FREEZE FRAME data. Ensure hex code matches DTC on scan tool. Hex code should be D9. Utilize FREEZE FRAME data to help in diagnostics. Repair as necessary. Test is complete. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000) .
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SRV solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate SRV solenoid. Using a voltmeter, check voltage of ASD relay output circuit at SRV connector. See «SRV SOLENOID CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S18716451602000030800000) table. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open ASD relay output circuit. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000) .
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of SRV solenoid control circuit between SRV solenoid connector and PCM connector terminal No. 18. See «SRV SOLENOID CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S18716451602000030800000) table and «PCM CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S40655265232000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open SRV solenoid control circuit. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000) .
  8. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of SRV solenoid control circuit between SRV solenoid connector and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on SRV solenoid control circuit. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000) .
  9. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between SRV solenoid terminals. If resistance is 25-35 ohms, replace PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000) . If resistance is not 25-35 ohms, replace SRV solenoid. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000) .
