Note. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
Note. Ambient/battery temperature sensor will be referred to as ambient temperature sensor for this test.
Scheme 62
- Remove and disconnect ambient temperature sensor. Ambient temperature sensor is located on bottom of upper radiator support and may be difficult to access. (Scheme 62) Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of ambient temperature sensor. See «AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE»(ref-576-S07261883652000030800000) table. If resistance is within specification, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, replace ambient temperature sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000). AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE Temperature °F (°C) Resistance 32 (0) 29,300-36,000 50 (10) 18,000-22,000 68 (20) 11,400-13,600 77 (25) 9100-10,800 86 (30) 7400-8700 104 (40) 4900-5700 122 (50) 3300-3800
- Turn ignition off. Close all doors. When all lights are off, wait one minute. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of ambient temperature sensor ground circuit between ambient temperature sensor connector and ground. See «AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S16104017242000030800000) table. If resistance is 30 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 30 ohms, go to «DTC P1492-B»(ref-576-S03650552232000030800000).
- Connect a jumper wire between ambient temperature sensor connector ground circuit and ground. See «AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S16104017242000030800000) table. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) (Bone) 12-pin connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of sensor ground circuit between ambient temperature sensor connector and BCM connector terminal No. 10. See «AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S16104017242000030800000) table and «BCM CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S16351421502000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open sensor ground circuit. Perform «TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES»(ref-576-S06971814902000030800000).
