- Ensure battery is fully charged and belt tension is okay before proceeding with test. Using scan tool, read target charging voltage. If target charging voltage is more than 15.1 volts, go to next step. If target charging voltage is 15.1 volts or less, go to step 3 .
- Using scan tool, read battery temperature sensor temperature. If battery temperature sensor temperature is within 10 degrees of underhood temperature, go to next step. If battery temperature sensor temperature is not within 10 degrees of underhood temperature, replace battery temperature sensor. Perform «TEST VER-3A: CHARGING VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S08649961902000030800000) . NOTE: Before starting engine, ensure all test equipment wires are clear of moving engine parts.
- Using a DVOM, check voltage between generator B+ terminal and battery positive terminal. Start engine. If voltage is .4 volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than .4 volt, repair B+ circuit for high resistance between generator and battery. Perform «TEST VER-3A: CHARGING VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S08649961902000030800000) .
- Turn ignition off. Connect a DVOM between generator case and battery negative terminal. Start engine. If voltage is .1 volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than .1 volt, repair generator ground for high resistance between generator case and battery negative terminal. Perform «TEST VER-3A: CHARGING VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S08649961902000030800000) .
- Manually set engine speed to 1600 RPM. Using scan tool, read and compare target voltage and charging voltage. If difference between target charging voltage and charging voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If difference between target voltage and charging voltage is more than one volt, go to step 7 .
- Return engine to idle speed. Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Perform «TEST CH-1A: CHARGING SYSTEM NO CODE TEST»(ref-576-S41578427092000030800000) .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect generator field connector and PCM connectors. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of ASD relay output circuit between generator field connector and PCM connector. See «ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S14180115802000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open ASD relay output circuit. Perform «TEST VER-3A: CHARGING VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S08649961902000030800000) .
- Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of generator field driver circuit between generator field connector and PCM connector. See «GENERATOR FIELD DRIVER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION»(ref-576-S32374920102000030800000) table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair or replace generator. Perform «TEST VER-3A: CHARGING VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S08649961902000030800000) . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open generator field driver. Perform «TEST VER-3A: CHARGING VERIFICATION»(ref-576-S08649961902000030800000) .
