Removing and Installing Camshaft Opel Astra H

Remove

1. 1. Remove camshaft sprocket
2. 2. Detach vacuum line • Detach 2x vacuum hose from vacuum line • Unscrew 2x bolts (arrows)

3. 3. Detach 2x hose (1) from cylinder housing cover • Undo 2 clamps

4. 4. Remove vacuum pump (1) • Detach vacuum line – Disconnect quick-release fitting • Unscrew 3x bolts (2)

5. 5. Remove cylinder head cover • Unscrew 7x bolt (arrows) in a spiral from the outside inward

6. 6. Turn crankshaft approx. 90° against direction of engine rotation
7. 7. Remove camshaft (2) • Unscrew 12x bolts (1) • Remove oil line • Remove 5x camshaft bearing covers • Remove camshaft seal

Note. Loosen bearing cover in stages, 1/2 - 1 turn from outside. Camshaft must detach itself evenly from bearing seat

Note. Observe correct assignment.

Remove

8. 8. Clean sealing surface
9. 9. Install camshaft • Fit oil line • Fit 5x camshaft bearing covers • Insert bearing covers 1 and 5 with surface sealing compound (green) • Tighten 12x bolt 15 Nm

Important. Observe correct assignment.

Note. Tighten in stages, working in a spiral from the inside out

10. 10. Install camshaft seal ring (1) with EN-46793 (2) • Drive seal ring in flush

11. 11. Clean sealing surface
12. 12. Install cylinder head cover • Replace seal • Tighten 7x bolt in a spiral from the inside outward 10 Nm
13. 13. Clean sealing surface
14. 14. Install vacuum pump • Replace seal • Tighten 3x bolt 20 Nm • Attach vacuum line – Connect quick release fitting

Important. Connection must audibly engage

15. 15. Attach 2x hose to cylinder head cover • Attach 2x clamps
16. 16. Install vacuum line • Tighten 2x bolt 9 Nm • Attach 2x vacuum hose to vacuum line
17. 17. Turn crankshaft to "Cylinder no.1 ignition TDC" in direction of engine rotation
18. 18. Install camshaft sprocket
