  1. Engine in vehicle

Note. All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be replaced in the same position when installing. Heat insulation sleeves that have been removed are to be reinstalled in the original position. If engine oil is contaminated, perform oil change.

Refer to 01 MAINTENANCE

  1. Drain coolant. Refer to «Cooling system, draining and filling»(ref-276269-S04050758062008010300000) .
  2. Remove intake manifold. Refer to «Intake manifold, removing and installing»(ref-276269-S38653353982008010300000) .
  3. Remove timing chain from camshafts. Refer to «Camshaft timing chain, removing from camshafts»(ref-276269-S22252894662008010300000) .

Note. To avoid damage, the flexible joints in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°.

  1. Unbolt front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifolds (arrows).

  1. Loosen and remove cylinder head bolts in sequence indicated.

  1. Attach lifting tackle 3033 as follows
  1. Belt pulley end: position 3
  2. Timing chain end: position 10

Note. The positions marked 1...12 on the lifting tackle 3033 face toward the timing chain end.

  1. Carefully lift off cylinder head.
  2. Place clean cloths in cylinders to prevent dirt from getting between cylinder wall and piston.
