Transmission Cable, Control Module - Removal & Installation: Specifications Volvo S60 I

Installing and tightening the sub-frame screws

Install the screws for the support bracket, both sides.

First tighten the screws on the left-hand side of the frame, followed by the right-hand side, to 105 Nm + 120°. Use a bevel protractor 9512050.

Then tighten the screws for the frame brackets. Tighten to 50 Nm .

Install the nut for the tie rod. Use a new nut. Tighten to 70 Nm .

Tighten the drive shaft screw. Use a new screw. Counterhold using a crow bar in the brake disc. Tighten to 35 Nm + 90°. Use bevel protractor 9512050.

Install the nut for the anti-roll bar link at the spring strut. Use a new lock nut.

Note. Counterhold the ball joint pinion when tightening the anti-roll bar link so that the ball joint boot cannot turn. Tighten to 50 Nm .

Tighten the screw and nuts. Tighten to 50 Nm .

Lift the anti-roll bar mounting a few mm. Use a jimmy bar. This makes it easier to insert the tool and the screw. Tighten to 50 Nm .

Install

  1. the turbo pipe on the rubber hoses. Tighten the hose clamps
  2. the screws for the clamps on the gearbox. Tighten to 10 Nm
  3. the collision protection. Tighten to 25 Nm .

Install

  1. the cross member and the brake pipe in their holders
  2. the screws for the exhaust bracket
  3. the screws for the cross member. Tighten to 25 Nm .

Rivet the heat deflector into place.

Install

  1. the screw for the ground lead bracket in the sub-frame. Tighten to 10 Nm
  2. the screw and the ground lead on the transmission. Tighten to 25 Nm
  3. the parking heater and the screws. Tighten to 25 Nm
  4. the fuel line in the clips on the sub-frame
  5. the screw in the cable conduit
  6. the front splash guard
  7. the splash guard under the engine
  8. the nuts for the left fender liner and damping protection.

Rivet the fender liner into place.

Install the wheels. See Installing wheels.

Install

  1. the screws for the transmission and engine. Tighten to 50 Nm
  2. the screw for the starter motor (number 5 in the next illustration). Tighten to 40 Nm .

Install

  1. the torque control arm on the engine / transmission
  2. the screws. Tighten the screws (1-2). Tighten to 10 Nm . Tighten the screws (3-4). Tighten to 40 Nm .

Tighten with 25 Nm .

Install

  1. the large connector. Lock it into place
  2. the bracket with the oil pipe. Press the dip stick pipe into place in the transmission oil pipe
  3. the two cable conduit nuts. Tighten to 10 Nm
  4. the connector furthest in at the cable conduit
  5. the oil pipe on the transmission. Tighten to 25 Nm .
CAUTIONCheck that the transmission bleed hose / valve is not trapped. There is a risk of overpressure in the transmission.

Scheme 1396: Installing the air hose on the turbocharger (TC) and the delivery line on the manifold

Install

  1. the air hose on the turbocharger (TC). Tighten the hose clamp
  2. the rubber hose and a new hose clamp on the evacuation pipe. Tighten the hose clamp using pliers
  3. the charge air pipe on the manifold. Tighten the hose clamp
  4. the rubber hose on the side socket on the air hose
  5. the valve cover ventilation. Use a new hose clamp.

Installing the upper torque rod in the engine compartment

See Install the upper torque rod.

Install the covers over the spring struts. Tighten the plastic nuts.

Scheme 1397: Installing the air cleaner (ACL) housing and engine cover

Install

  1. the air cleaner (ACL) housing. See «Install the air cleaner (ACL) housing»(ref-415401-S24341661522011081500000)
  2. the air hose to the throttle body (TB). Tighten the hose clamp
  3. the connectors on their mountings on the air cleaner (ACL)
  4. the engine cover and the screws.

Tightening the subframe screws (both sides)

Tighten the screws on the left-hand side of the subframe first, followed by the right, as per Tightening torque.

Use angle gauge 9512050.

Then tighten the 4 x M10 screws for the frame brackets.

Install

  1. the screws, M10, to the front and rear engine pads. Tighten
  2. the torque rod mounting on the transmission.

Note. Use new screws.

Tighten according to: Tightening torque

Scheme 1399: Installing the steering wheel shaft joint

Align the steering wheel shaft joint on the steering gear.

Install a new steering wheel shaft screw. Tighten. See: Tightening torque .

Connect the cable to the stepper motor/solenoid.

Installing the torque converter screws

Note. Use new screws.

Align the torque converter against the carrier plate. Do this by turning the engine with the nut for the crankshaft pulley and turning the torque converter.

Install all 6 screws loosely. Tighten the screws. Tighten until the heads are almost in contact with the carrier plate. Tighten. See Summary of tightening torques for specific components. Use a Torx socket TX50.

Note. Remove the socket wrench from the crankshaft.

Scheme 1400

Scheme 1400: Lifting the engine and transmission

Lift the engine to slightly above the horizontal position to provide better access to the rear engine mounting and engine pad.

Note. Check that the connection on the hose for the heater is not trapped between the engine and firewall when the engine is lifted.

Raise the car.

Installing and tightening front suspension components

Install a new M1 lock nut for the ball joint pinion. Counterhold the ball joint pinion while tightening so that the ball joint boot cannot turn. Tighten. See: Summary of tightening torques for specific components .

Tighten the drive shaft screw. Counterhold using a screwdriver in the brake disc vents. Tighten. See: Summary of tightening torques for specific components.

Use: 9512050.

Install

  1. the link to the anti-roll bar. Use a new M10 lock nut. Counterhold the ball joint pinion while tightening so that the ball joint boot cannot turn. Tighten. See: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(ref-415459-S09555248762011081500000).
  2. the tie rod. Tighten. See: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(/volvo/s60/i-2000-2004/remont/suspension-front/#suspension-tightening-torque-mechanical__summary-of-tightening-torques-for-specific)
  3. The ABS line in the mounting in the spring strut
  4. the fender liner with the support plate and the nuts.

Checking and topping up oil

Check and top up with oil. See: Transmission fluid, replacing.

Scheme 1401: Installing the cable duct

Install

  1. the cable duct on the sub-frame
  2. the ground cable to the sub-frame
  3. any additional heaters/parking heaters to the mounting in the sub-frame to the mountings
  4. the front splash guard
  5. the splash guard under the engine
  6. the wheels. See «Installing wheels»(ref-415307-S16574462602011081500000).
