Cylinder Head Valve Train Components Replace

Tools Required

09916-14510 Valve Spring Compressor

EN-48252 Valve Spring Compression Adapter

Disassemble

1. Remove the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble and Assemble .

  1. Remove the camshaft. Refer to Camshafts Replace .
  1. Remove the intake/exhaust roller finger-followers.
  2. Remove the intake/exhaust valve bridge.
  3. Remove the intake/exhaust valve lash adjuster.
  1. Install the valve spring compressor 09916-14510(a) with the valve spring compression adapter EN-48247(b) to the cylinder head.
  2. Turn the handle of the valve spring compressor 09916-14510 to compress the valve spring.
  3. Remove the valve key.
  4. Remove the valve spring retainer.
  5. Remove the valve spring.
  6. Remove the valves.
  1. Remove the valve stem oil seal.

Inspect

  1. Inspect the valve for damage from the head to tip for the following conditions.
  2. pitting in the valve seat area (1) lack of valve margin (2) bending in the valve stem (3) pitting or excessive wear in the stem (4) worn valve key grooves (5) worn valve tip (6)
  3. Replace the valve if any of these conditions exist.
  4. Inspect the valve springs. If the valve spring ends are not parallel, replace the valve spring.
  5. Inspect the valve spring seating surface of the valve rotators for wear or gouges. Replace as required.

Clean

  1. Clean the cylinder head.
  2. Clean the valve guides.
  3. Clean all of the threaded holes.
  4. Clean the valves of carbon, oil, and varnish.

Assembly

  1. Lubricate the valve stems with engine oil.
  2. Carefully install the valves in their original positions.
  3. Install the valve stem oil seal.
  1. Install the valve spring.
  2. Install the valve spring seat.
  3. Install the valve.
  4. Install the valve spring retainer.
  5. Compress the valve springs with the valve spring compressor 09916-14510 (a) and the valve spring compression adapter EN-48247 (b).
  6. Install the valve key.
  7. Remove the valve spring compressor 09916-14510 (a) and the valve spring compression adapter EN-48247 (b).
  1. Install the valve lash adjusters.
  2. Install the valve bridges.
  3. Install the valve roller finger-followers.
  1. Install the camshaft. Refer to Camshafts Replace
  1. Install the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble and Assemble
