Checking components, intake system

HINT: This diagnostic trouble code can be caused by a damaged mass air flow sensor.

Check that lambda adaptations are within the specified normal values.

Incorrect lambda adaptations can indicate a faulty mass air flow (MAF) sensor.

HINT: Use the adaptations for the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and leak flow (parameter read out) to determine how much the system has adapted.

An adaptation on one or both parameters that is less than approximately 0.85 indicates blocked crankcase ventilation and/or a dirty electronic throttle module (ETM).

Adaptations greater than approximately 1.15 indicate a (smaller) air leak somewhere in the intake system.

Note. Even extremely small air leaks can cause this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) to be stored.

Check that the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor and boost pressure sensor are correctly installed. Check for air leakage around the components.

Check the crankcase ventilation for blockage. In particular check the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve on turbocharged engines.

HINT: Indications of a blocked positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve include contamination or oil on components in the intake system.

Remedy as necessary.

  4. Read off and make a note of the adaptation value.
  5. Start the engine. Increase the engine speed (RPM) a couple of times.
  6. Read off the adaptation value and check that the adaptation value approaches 1.

Does the adaptation value approach 1?

  4. Read off the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor signal. Check that the signal is within its permitted range. If signal is now OK this indicates that the fault was caused by poor contact in the connector. Checking cables and connectors

Check reference voltage cable between control module connector #A58 (#A60) and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor connector terminal 3 for an intermittent open-circuit according to Open-circuit, intermittent faults or an intermittent short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, intermittent faults .

HINT: With the ignition on and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor connector disconnected the voltage between terminal 3 and ground terminal should be approximately 5 V.

Check signal cable between control module connector #A23 (#A23) and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor connector terminal 1 for an intermittent short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, intermittent faults .

HINT: With the ignition on and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor connector disconnected the voltage between terminal 1 and ground terminal should be approximately 5 V.

Checking the connector

  1. Ignition off
  2. Check the pressure sensor connector. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See «Contact resistance and oxidation»(ref-403956-S32156020042011061000000) . Ignition on Read off the pressure in the pressure sensor Start the engine. Depress and release the accelerator pedal (AP). Check that the voltage of the pressure sensor changes.

Does the pressure change by more than 0.1 Volt?

  1. YES OKAY: Troubleshooting has been completed.

Checking the component

Check that the hose between the pressure gauge and intake pipe. Check for damage and leakage.

  1. Start engine and run to normal operating temperature.
  2. Switch off all large power consuming components, for example the air conditioning (A/C) compressor, defroster and seat heaters.
  3. Read off the mass air flow (MAF) and pressure sensors values.
  4. Check that the mass air flow (MAF) and pressure sensor values are within their various ranges at different engine speeds (RPM) according to: Mass air flow (MAF) sensor values, see «Mass air flow (MAF) sensor»(ref-403971-S06501795622011061000000) . Are these values OK?

Checking component

Check for air leakage in the intake system. In particular check the hose between mass air flow (MAF) sensor and throttle body (TB) for leakage and damage according to Check for air leaks in the intake system .

Check that the hose between the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and manifold is airtight and is not trapped.

Remedy as necessary.

Check that the boost pressure sensor is correctly installed and has not come loose.

  3. Read off the diagnostic status and the fault status for diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-1600. NOTE: Do not switch off the engine before VCT2000 has been connected and the status of the fault has been read off. Check that the fault status is "NO FAULT FOUND" when the diagnostic status is COMPLETED. If the fault status is "FAULT FOUND" when the diagnostic status is COMPLETED there is a fault.

  2. Check boost pressure sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation according to «Contact resistance and oxidation»(ref-403956-S41958999262011061000000) .
  3. Reinstall components, reconnect connectors etc.
  4. Ignition on.
  5. Read boost pressure and atmospheric pressure.
  6. The difference in pressure should not be greater than 140 hPa (2.0 psi). If the difference is less than 140 hPa (2.0 psi) it means that the cause of the fault has been loose connections in the connector. Other information Normal atmospheric pressure is 1013 hPa (14.7 psi). Is the difference between the pressures less than 140 hPa? (2.0 psi)

Check the cable between injector terminal 2 and the control module

  1. terminal #16 for ECM-2300
  2. terminal #34 for ECM-2310
  3. terminal #15 for ECM-2320
  4. terminal #33 for ECM-2330
  5. terminal #14 for ECM-2340.

Check for an open-circuit. Check for short-circuit to supply voltage. Check for a short-circuit to ground.

Check the resistance between terminals #1 and #2 on the injector. It should be 10-20 ohms at approximately 20 °C.

Check the cable between injector connector terminal #1 and fuse 3 in the integrated relay / fusebox in the engine compartment. Check for an open-circuit.

HINT: With the ignition on, the voltage between injector terminal 1 and ground terminal must be battery voltage.
